It was lovely having a lie in and such a bonus having a delicious Indonesian breakfast served to us on the terrace outside our beautiful room. We had green banana pancakes with coconut and a fresh fruit salad and felt ready for the day ahead.
Emily and I wandered into town and did some shopping, first in some of the street shops and then went to Ubud Market which is one of the best markets I have been to in Asia! There were no other tourists there and they actually tell you to barter with them here which is funny as prices start so high, and you end up getting items do so cheap! Indonesian people are so happy and friendly. After spending enough money on various pieces of clothing, jewellery and other bits we decided we should go for lunch before we spent every penny! I had chicken sate with fresh steamed spinach and peanuts - yum.
Having not done yoga since India, Emily and I were both so excited to find that Ubud is famous for yoga and decided to do a late afternoon class. We went to Women's Balance Yoga at Yoga Barn expecting an hour and a half of working on our core balancing technique trough yoga positions. However, what happened next was completely bizarre and unexpected! The yoga instructor said "will all the sisters who are on their moon raise their hands", at which time Emily and I looked at each other with pure confusion, after which she then continued to say "Yes will all the sisters who are menstruating move to the back of the room". Emily and I were perplexed at how that could be at all relevant until the yoga instructor began the class and said "welcome to female hormonal balance yoga, let's speak to our ovaries through breathing and yoga". How had we got this so wrong?! We gave it our all in any case and ended up bent over legs straight and head balanced on a block on the floor....trying not to giggle the whole way through (we were slightly hysterical at the beginning). It was relaxing and in the most beautiful setting so was worth doing even if the instructor was full of bulls*** facts about menstruation.
We went for dinner with Michael to the infamous Dirty Duck Diner, "Bebek Bengil". Smoked duck is a delicacy in Ubud and Bali and so we decided we couldn't come here and not try it, and may as well do so at the restaurant renowned for the dish! The restaurant had its own beautiful gardens with fountains and Indonesian sculptures; such a gorgeous setting. We all sat cross legged on cushions in a raised wooden booth and were served a feast of an entire duck cooked in indonesian spices with rice, vegetables, pork sate, crackers, sauces and juice. The meal was absolutely delicious - definitely one of the best I've had in Asia.
