Medellin is a picturesque city built completely within a valley of mountains, and offers an opportunity for one of the best paragliding spots in the world. Putting our directional skills to the test we caught the metro to Caribe, the bus terminal, and then caught a bus up into Medellin's surrounding mountains up winding mountain roads (which we are very used to by this point). The journey in total was almost two hours and it was irritating to find out that it was too windy to go paragliding at that time so we would have to wait or come back the following day!
With astonishing views over Medellin we decided we would wait it out and see if the wind subsided. We got some snacks and entertained each other until a whole bunch of people from our hostel turned up and were in the same position! So we all chilled out together. Luckily for us after three hours of waiting Liv and I were called and told it was time to fly! I got all harnessed up and my excitement turned to fear as I was to be the first to go up, strapped to the professional and swept up by the wind into the sky extremely high in a matter of seconds.
It was unbelievable. The experience was thrilling but incredibly relaxing at the same time. It was so exciting when I saw Liv take off into the sky and we waved at each other, both gliding through the clouds over Medellin. The views were indescribable and obviously one of the best sights I will probably ever see. Medellin really is beautiful. Alejandro, my paragliding professional, did some "manoeuvres" which felt like being on a rollercoaster but not attached to anything, and my 20 minute flight went so quickly. I really loved every second and it is one of my favourite experiences of my travels.
Back at the hostel there was not much going on. We had a couple of drinks and chatted to two guys from the States and a girl from London for the evening before calling it a night.
