So where did I leave off? After avoiding that morning's protests and holing myself up in the hostel, I was ravenous. Left the hostel to eat at the first place I could find, and had the usual blandly disappointing vegetables and rice. Then I took the Skytrain down to Siam Square for the afternoon, where there were upwards of 100 restaurants, in all of which I could have eaten a more satisfying meal. But you live and you learn. After mooching round the shops and getting back home for a shower, I once again took the Skytrain down to Nana to meet Jo and Kylie for dinner. After successfully negotiating the route, I was very proud of myself. Unluckily, Jo and Kylie's tour finished late so I had to wait for an hour, and once they'd arrived, their booking wasn't recognised. Just a bit of a kerfuffle really, but we did end up having dinner and it was lovely to see them again.
The next day I changed hotels to start my second tour which will take me around Southern Thailand. Met the group that night and had dinner, everyone seems really nice. I've had a pretty good run so far with the people I've met. There's eleven of us, not all girls this time, and a mix of British, Irish, German, Australian and Dutch. The following day, I visited the National Museum in Bangkok with Mariette, my Dutch roomate. Was alright, nothing to write home about. Afterwards, we met up with her friend Sarah and had a wander down Khao San road. Bought a few items of clothing since, for the first time in my life, I haven't packed enough. That night we took a night train from Bangkok down to Khao Sok. The light didn't work when we were all awake but as soon as I wanted to sleep, there it was, shining right in my face so managed to get about two hours that night.
The morning after, we took a bus and a songtoew to our accommodation just outside Khao Sok National Park. We stayed in these gorgeous little jungle huts, where you have to lock your doors and shut your windows to stop monkeys pinching your stuff. No hot water and a couple of stray cockroaches but the scenery more than made up for it. That afternoon, we went tubing down the jungle river, where you take massive rubber rings and ride the river down over some rapids. Saw a snake swimming later that night so glad I hadn't seen that beforehand. It was a very nice little jaunt except for the few grazes from rocks on my back, and the chunk of my hand a stray rock took out. Took full advantage of the bar's happy hour and had some dinner before heading to bed.
On Tuesday, we all took a walk down to the National Park and spent a few hours trekking down to the nearest waterfall, where I was massively unsociable and got stuck into the book I'm reading. Trekking is definitely not my thing so I distracted myself from the thought of the walk back with a little Jodi Picoult. Nothing out of the ordinary that night, just some dinner and bed since we had a 5am start this morning. (From which I'm still reeling so apologies if this post is a little more vague than usual).
Took a songtoew, bus, ferry and minivan to arrive at Koh Samui island this afternoon. Have just had some lunch and am about to hit the beach once my Internet time runs out. Walked into a wall and cut my knee on the way over here, so am in definite need of a little relaxing this afternoon. Leave Koh Samui on Friday for Koh Tao so will be updating soon, I'm sure.
Love as always xxxxxx
