Greetings from a little Internet cafe off Khao San road.
As I've been up for 36 hours, this will be short and sweet. Got into Bangkok this afternoon after a not so enjoyable twelve hour overnight flight. I didn't sleep a wink, watched four films back to back and the lovely air steward kept plying me with bananas, which may be why I'm still conscious.
After fifteen minutes of frantic searching, finally found my hotel transfer and took the forty minute drive into Old Bangkok. The drive through New Bangkok didn't look all that dissimilar to London, all skyscrapers and Tesco's, but soon became a whirl of tuk tuks and temples. It's very, very humid which is not helped by the 14kg bag on my back.
But had a lovely upgrade at the hotel so will enjoy my first sleep in a nice, comfy bed with a clean shower. Beautiful. Just taken a walk outside the hotel, can't believe quite how busy it is. And it really smells awful, even worse than Venice. While walking down the street I retched and I bet that wasn't a pretty sight for the other 94 people coming towards me.
Feeling pretty light headed from a lack of sleep and food, got the fuzzy feeling you get when you have a good sniff of some petrol. Going to head back now, grab some pad thai and a beer and go for an immense twelve hour sleep.
Catching an afternoon flight to Ho Chi Minh tomorrow, so will spend another day at the airport, but hopefully from then on will actually have some interesting stories and photos rather than details of my inability to cope with the smell.
Miss you all already,
Big Kisses and will update from Vietnam.
