I've been in South Africa now for 6 days. On Saturday I and a couple of other girls from the hostel, Amanda and Samantha, went on the Robben Island Museum tour. It takes 30 minutes by boat to get there. Once we arrived, we had bus tour of the island and saw the Leper Graveyard, the Limestone Quarry where the prisoners were forced to work and the houses where the people who work at the museum live. After that, we got taken around the prison by an ex-inmate and shown Nelson Mandela's cell. After we got the boat back, we looked around the shops at the Waterfront which was pretty nice, then went out for tea.
Sunday and Monday were lazy days spent lounging round the hostel, but on Monday morning I sorted out my bungy jump off Bloukrans Bridge. It's a lot further away from Cape Town than I initially thought and proved a bit of a mission to get to. Bright and early on Tuesday morning I got picked up by the Baz Bus (the backpacker bus in South Africa) and 10 hours later (!!!) arrived at my hostel in Storms River, the closest town to the bungy, where I'm having to spend 2 nights.
I got the shuttle to the bungy at 11 this morning and jumped at around 1ish. I can't even begin to describe how amazing it was. I was absolutely terrified while the guy was strapping my ankles together and attaching the cord but then I hopped over to the edge, got counted down by 2 big, black guys, jumped, then everything went quiet. There was a weird silence as I just fell through the air then started bouncing. A guy came down to get me back up, after what felt like about 10 minutes of hanging upside down.
I have another 10 hour bus ride back to Cape Town in the morning. It's cost me more to do this than I though it would but I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat.
