Hello!
We were picked up bright and early by our tour guide Sharky, for our day trip to Moreton Island. We made our way around the city, picking up the rest of the group, which happened to be 8 more girls - Lee was slightly out numbered. We headed down to the Port of Brisbane, where we boarded our luxury Mi-Cat, for our hour and a half cruise across Moreton Bay to Moreton Island.
As soon as we arrived, we drove staright off the boat and onto the beach, and then had a very bumpy ride across the island to the desert, for some sand boarding. We had to do this as early as possible as it gets extremely hot on the island - although we were already baking like little potatoes.
Sand boarding is high-speed, high-adrenaline fun, as described in the brochure. But it didn't tell you that it is also extremely hard work, as it took 10 minutes to hike up the sand dune for a crazy 7 seconds ride down!!
When our legs finally wouldn't carry us anymore and we were all scorched from the sun, we returned to the car and travelled through thick forest across the island until we arrived at Open beach - 38km of pure white sand and crystal clear waters!! Here we had chance for a quick swim, to rinse off all the sand and cool down. Before we made our way up to North Point and Honeymoon Bay's secluded beach. Here we spent time chilling in the Champagne pool. This is a natural rock pool where the waves crash over the rocks creating zillions of bubbles - just like champagne - it doesn't taste the same though.
Before we knew it, we were being called for our gourmet picnic that Sharky had been preparing whilst we'd all been lazing about. After we'd filled our bellies, it was time to head off to Cape Moreton Lighthouse - 99m above sea level. Where we had great views of the coast, and got to see turtles swimming in the sea below, and were even lucky enough to spot a sting ray.
Our last stop was the Blue Lagoon. Moreton Island's beautiful fresh water lake, otherwise known as the 'Fountain of Youth', for it's naturally occuring tea tree oils, great for the ladies!! This was well worth the scorching walk from the car, as we spent plenty of time relaxing in the cool waters. There could not be a better way to wind down after a hot and sticky day.
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, and as we'd spent so long in the lagoon, it was time to make a super speedy ride across the island to catch the last ferry. We just made it in time, and as we cruised out into the bay we had chance to look at the shipwrecks, 50m off the beach - very impressive.
This place truley is paradise, and we would just like to thank Sharky and the rest of the gang for making it such an enjoyable experience.
Speak to you all soon,
Love Lee and Emma
