Up really early to see the sunrise over Phnom Bakheng but so worth it, stunning, probably the best sunrise I have ever seen.
Headed back to the hotel for breakfast and a nap. Headed off agaim at about 9.30 and it was already boiling hot.
Headed to Angor Them which was huge and spent a good few hours wandering about with our guide. Saw a horse with 5 heads and some beautiful wall carvings. Brought some postcards from a guy in a wheelchair as I think he was the only local all day to not start yelling and sticking things right in my face yelling 'one dollar, one dollar'. Back on the bus and went for lunch in a restaurant round the corner. Quiet expensive but I suppose that it is a really touristy area and the portions were huge.
Next onto Ta Phrom which was where tomb raider was filmed. Really cool, there are trees growing out of the roof of the main building and tombs crumbling down all over the place.
Headed to Angkor Wat and had a look around inside. I found it amazing that depending on if the King is Buddist or Hindu depends on what the inside of the temple looks like. E.G. at the moment there is a Hindu king so all of the Budda statues have been torn down and destroyed. There will then be a race against time as the next King is set to be Buddist, and is already getting on a bit, so they will have to make all new ones for the temples.
Our guide's name was Kim and he was lovely. He was one of 10 children although his eldest brother died in the civil war, a younger sister had died during a period of poverty in Camboida where his family were living on fruit and seeds and one had been poisonous and killed her. His mother had died during childbirth with his youngest brother, who also didn't survive more than a week. And he was still smiling. Makes you realise how petty our problems are.
Headed to another temple for the sunset and climbed up loads of steps to see the sunset which was good but not really amazing. It was kind of cool to see the sun rise and set in the same day.
Went out for a meal with Lisa, Sue and Matt in the evening which was nice. Little local place where we sat with all of the locals. Then we went for a fish massage as the other girls hadn't tried it before and we even got a free cocktail with it. Early night as everyone knackered.
