A bit behind on the blog and am now in Chiang Mai. Laos was very laid back but beautiful. We did tubing for a day which was really fun. I rented a big rubber ring type thing and u sit on it and travel down the river to different bars made mostly from bamboo and they pull you in. We only did about 4 bars as time was getting on and we had to have our tube back by 6pm (which we didnt so we lost our deposit). At a few bars there were theses zip wires, that u go on from a platform quite high up and eventually let go so u land in the wtare, before we arrived we were like "we are going to stay away from them as people have died"..after one drink we couldnt get enough! Well i only did it once due to fright but the others were on it all day! After enough Laos Laos (whisky) to last us a while we made our way back. I was up front leading the way, whilst behind me Kelvin was dragging Lianne along by her foot that was hanging out the tube as she was too sick to do anything! Eventually we arrived back safe and sound!! Later that eve, i was having a shower and thats when lianne decided to be sick again! Dont worry i got her back the other evening when she was in the shower! We moved onto Luang Prabang, which was a horrible bus ride and there was a local lady and little boy being sick the whole 7hrs of the journey. As soon as we got to Luang Prabang we booked a flight to get us to Chiang Mai to avoid another 10hr bus ride. In Luang Prabang we trekked to a homestay. It was the most strenuous trek yet and we were knackered by the time we got to the homestay (which we think was just the guides brothers house) In the morning we told the guid to find us a shortcut to get us to the waterfall, and boy was it a shortcut. He had to keep stopping and asking farmers where we were and the terrain was all plants and it was so steep we either fell down or slid on our bottoms. All in all the least fun trek yet, but when we arrived at the waterfall it was beautiful and we got to swim in it.
The flight to Chiang Mai (North Thailand) was so easy and quick (an hr) and we got food! We went to Chiang Mais night bazaar which is amazing! Could spend so much money here but refrained. The next day we booked a trip that involved white water rafting, elephant trekking and a little bike ride. Unfortunately the morning of it i came down with a bug that made me very sick, and the journey to the elephants involved sitting in the back of a truck for 2hrs ( i was sick just as we arrived, impeccable timing on my part)! Really enjoyed the elephant ride, although did feel a little cruel! I skipped lunch and really didnt think id be able to do the white water rafting, but i did and it was so much fun! Dangerous but very very fun. Just rocks everywhere, we got stuck on them a coupla times. The whole day cost about 35pounds which was really good value for money. On the way back the guide let me sit in the front with her and i slept. That night Lianne was having a shower and i had to intrude,as she did me, as my tummy gave in. I slept for 17hrs that night. The bug still hasnt completely gone but ive bought some sickness bands to hopefully see me through the 10hr bus journey we have now got to Bangkok.
We are heading towrads Cha am, where we hope to spend christmas but we havent booked anywhere to stay yet. The original plan was to stay in Chiang Mai but we got a bit ahead of ourselves and to save time are heading south as we have a hotel booked on koh phangan from the 29th. If you dont hear from me MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!
