We arrived at Brisbane from Surfers after a fantastic day at Sea World! We needed a 'day-off' as we have been going pretty non-stop in Australia (i know - it sounds indulgent!) but we were having one of those days where the budgeting, cheap food shopping etc gets to you and you're on the verge of a meltdown (which Em practically had in the middle of a supermarket!), so we took a day off to chill and catch up putting some photos on!
Today we woke up to a perfect blue sky (I mean literally not a cloud in sight) and have had a fantastic long day walking around the 'garden city'. Its quite pretty along the river - and we walked the length of the southbank through beautiful gardens, man-made beaches, pools and BBQ areas - really nicely set up, before crossing the river to the Botanic gardens and parliament buildings. A highlight was the 'cultural area' - a group of museums and art spaces, including a funky grafitti wall and a great GOMA (gallery of modern art). Spent a bit of time in here as there was a fantastic Chinese modern art ecxhibition on, and it felt nice to be doing something a bit 'normal'. This afternoon we're off to do the 5km Brisbane city river run - a great route along the river bank and through the gardens, so plastering up with suncream and off to work off the food we have been scoffing!
Tomorrow we head further up North to Noosa, a small coastal destination before taking a long overnight journey over 1000km further up the coast to Airlie beach to sail out to the Whitsunday islands at the start of the Great Barrier Reef. Lots of exciting adventures to come, and we can't wait to get going!
