Borneo...
our original plan was to go straight to a national park and stay there over night. unfortunately it was all fully booked so very quick change of plan we decided to go visit a longhouse first then come back later and do the national parks. so catching a night bus we travelled furth north east into the jungle to a town called Sibu. not much sleep well no sleep at all, but luckyily working my charm i managed to get us a free room for abuot 3 hours just to try and get some sleep.
we wanted to arrange a visit to a longhouse but it was sunday and nothing what so ever was open. the tribes that live in longhouses dont like to interact with the western world, there are ones geared towards tourism though. we werent able to see any coz none of the tourist offices were even open. we thought we'd travel even deeper into the jungle, we had to go by boat as theres no roads, and most longhouses are on rivers so it would increase our chance of finding one we could go to.
a women at our hotel introduced us to a guy who had worked for the national geographic, and he agreed to take us to one on the monday. great news!!!
it was really interesting, and much bigger than i thought well much longer hehe. they wore jeans and well western clothes, but still kept all there traditions, so antique jars and enemies skulls lay everywhere. our guide told us so much, and let us wonder around, there was a great river so nice and cold. as soon as we'd finished there we caught a boat back to sibu and then another night bus back to Kuching.
