We still couldnt get accomodation at the national parks but we still decided to go so we could have a look. went early, straight off the night bus so we were soo tired. it was Bako national park, its home to the rare probiscus monkey, they have big floppy noses. we saw some as soon as we left the main office which was great. decided to do the hike which went up to the waterfall. was about 3.5 km one way. so hot n sticky! it was different jungle to peru, it was hilly, so at the top of the hills it was really bare rock, so directly under the sun! was horrible hiking through that. i cleverly managed to leave my passport behind on a rock when we'd sat down for a rest, so i had to run back for it. that added an extra 2 km to my hike. oopsy. we were gradually running out of water too, even though we'd both drank about 3 litres each and this still wasnt enough. stayed in kuching that night and headed to the Orang Utan sanctuary early in the morning. they had alsorts there! helping to release them back into the wild. when it was feeding time for the Orang Utans we headed over to their enclosure. one was a MASSIVE king kong look a like, one was just a little cheeky one. we were busy taking photos when a tree started shaking, when we looked a wild one came swinging in!!!! it climbed on the roof and came right next to us. so rare to see them in the wild, we were sooo lucky!
tried to get a flight that day but they were all full so we booked one for the next day. got back to singapore on the thursday feeling horrible. been wearing the same clothes for ages and living out of a tiny backpack, we'd left everything else back in singapore storage.
