Venice was the destination today: we walked from the Santa Monica Pier (part of Route 66) along the beach to the famous "muscle beach" where there is an outdoor gym. We dabbled in the Pacific and saw some bikini-clad Baywatch-style lifeguards, their huts and their hypercool rescue cars. The shops in Venice were similar to those you might find on Torbay Road, but we were readied for such a treat when one of Jez's new friends from Blackburn described it as "like Blackpool but with weirder people". We ate delicious ice-cream from "Nice-Cream", where the shop keeper said that we could try as many flavours as we liked: on this occasion declined, I would hate to have made Jez feel uncomfortable...
There were some roller skaters on the beach-front and lots of people "working out". We did hunt for a Taco Bell, which is an American fast-food taco outlet, but we had to settle for MacDonald's in its absence where Jez managed to eat 1,200 Kcal with the greatest of ease.
Our taxi ride back to the airport was double the cost of the same trip in the opposite direction which, coupled with our super-early arrival for check-in, left a sour taste in the mouth...however, it all turned around when Jez got pat-searched at the airport just before a crazy group of people stormed through duty-free dressed in grass skirts shouting a haka and a Mauri school group gathered and did their Haka too, it was very powerful. We're just waiting for our flight from to New Zealand eating M&Ms.

mum pity the nice creams weren't waiting for u at the airport! What was Pat like, Jez? Blonde? Tanned? Muscles rippling straight off Muscle Beach? Good ole taxi drivers, they are the same the world over - they can read u like a comic strip! Who would ever have thought that Blackpool equates to Torbay which equates to LA?! Good night - we're looking forward to reading about your next set of experiences.
sam Ha. Jez I hope they were thorough, I wouldnt have wanted you to leave disappointed. Shame I didnt catch you both before you left. When are you heading to India? How long will you have there and where are you going exatly? if you want ant suggestions then let me know. Sambo x
Jez Hey Sambo, The chap at the airport wasnt very good looking so i'm glad he didnt take too long about it - he was very gentle though!!! haha. Yeah, we were all pretty busy those last few weeks. I hope things are all good for gradulation etc (soon to be Dr Rowe! Congratulations!!). We are heading to India on the 9th August and will be there until the 25th Sept. Feel free to give us some suggestions! Jez x
