Emma & Fuzzy's Travels
Hi everyone! We are having an absolute ball! The farmstay we were at last week was amazing. We done anything from hand feeding baby goats and calfs to horse riding to chopping trees and driving a tractor. Talk about out of the comfort zone! Yes, we were sleeping in a barn, but it is amazing how quickly we adapted to our surroundings. There were 4 other help exchangers who were all spot on and Sue, the owner, was really easy going. They have a cottage which they rent out to people on a tourist basis which we helped out with too. A family arrived the same day as us and they were always over chatting and stuff. They had five boys ranging from 3 to 12 who wanted to try everything. When the family left they gave us thier card and told us if we ever need anywhere to saty near Brisbane jsut to give them a phone. We really have been lucky that we have met great people all along the way.
So throughout the farmstay we both tried things that we haven't done before (or prabably will again!). I drove a tractor, which was good fun and Fuz participated in the slaughtering of goats (not such good fun, but part and parcel of the farms routine). The farm had lots of goats and we had to feed them morning and night, which resulted in a bruise or two from the ever hungry goats butting our butts! Fuz and the other two lads (Jamie and Gareth) worked on the outside shower block all week and were pleased that they managed to complete it in time for us leaving (not half as pleased as Sue though!). I done chores around the house, chopped trees and cleared some land, helped Katharina with the horses, and tried to help a Japanes girl with her English (so there is a Japanese girl running around with a Scottish twang!). It wasn't hard going, but we were heading to our beds at 9pm! Mind you, we had two very young calfs in the 'room' next to us who made sure they woke us nice and early in order to get their bottles of milk!
We didn't see any snakes or deadly spiders thankfully, which was quite surprising given the type of place we were living. There is a serious water shortage so we had to be very careful with any water that we used. Showers were on a bit of a ration, which we adapted to scarily well! We didn't leave the area in a whole week and it felt like we had been there much longer than we had (but in a good way).
Anyway, we are now in a place called Yabina Creek, which is near Noosa but I will save that for another postcard!
Hope everyone is well. Lots of love, Em and FuzXXX
