The adventure begins...
It was a long flight across the pond, awake for 22 hours on arrival at Providence on th 12th July 08! It sure was hard to function properly! Now fully in the swing of things in week 3 of challenger sports soccer.
Arrived at JFK New York at 12:45 and took the express bus into the city. There were times when I didnt think we would make it out of the big apple alive!! An interesting journey, but when you see the New York City skyline open up in front of you its all worth it!
After a good nights sleep it was time for work. Headed up to Medway Massachuesettes for camp one of six. Also was time to meet my new family for the week, the lovely and very welcoming Eklunds. They made me feel at home straight away, so much so I requested to return for my final week. I was kept very busy throughout the week taking an evening trip into Boston, which is the most beautiful city Ive ever been to. Shooting machine guns at a shooting range, a crazy and alightly sureal experience. Bring on the Marines!!
An emotional goodbye after only a week before heading a little further north to Boxford for camp two and another family, the Browns. Very different from the previous family, but equally as kind and couldnt do enough for me. Sight seeing up the North Shore with its spectacular beaches, a visit into Boston (A city I recommend all to visit) Salem the Witches city I imagine to be very spooky over the Halloween period!!
I am currently in Tiverton, Rhode Island. A fabulous place with friendly people and a great relaxing atmosphere. Newport, the sailing and college party town has some of the most impressive Mansions. Its certainly an area for the affluent!
Having a wonderful time, seeing America in a very unique way.
My Final Week of Challenger Soccer Camps:
Ive had a great time and seen much of Massachusetts, it a wonderful state and I'd reccommend a visit, especially to Boston! What a city, vibrant, clean, friendly, historical, its awesome! Its a great area of the US with its lush green surroundings, lakes and beaches, the historical aspects of New England really grab your attention. The New Englanders are very proud of their routes, which I admire greatly.
The last week of camp brings me back to Medway, which is where the story began. So much has happened since and I have had great experiences. I have had the pleasure of working with some fantastic people and also stayed with some amazing families who have cared for me and welcomed me into their family with ease. The host families I have stayed with have been the highlight of my stay in New England, you really get close to America when you live and travel in this way.
I have throughly enjoyed working on the soccer camps yet again and Im already looking forward to next summer in the hope of returning to New England to coach. But before then I have a small matter of seeing the world to attend to... Watch this spcae the dream is very much alive!!!
