Cinque Terre is by far one of the most beautiful places we've been! We finally made it to the beach! We caught our train at 7:30am to Riomaggiore. Cinque Terre is a region made up of 5 small towns across the coast line. It is really beautiful! When we got there we all went and put our bags down and straight away started the walk! To get from each town you have to walk or you can catch a train! We started in Riomaggiore and walked to Manarola. The walk was beautiful - you walked along a walk way that overlooked the ocean! It was so hot!! All we wanted was a swim! Along the paths there are stairs and paths you can take to get to a beach! Between Manarola and Corniglia were closed due to a landslide, but we walked a small distance down the track and found an area where we could swim! We all jumped in for a dip - it was the most amazing feeling! After our swim we had to catch the train to Corniglia because of the closure! When we got there we had a look around and started our walk to Vernazza. This walk was a lot harder and longer!! Poor Henry, his feet have been giving him hell. They've been really sore and he has blisters all over them from his shoes, so the walk wasn't too fun for him! But we all made it and as hard, hot, sweaty and as tiring it is when you see the views and get to the next town it's all worth it! When we finally made it to Vernazza It was amazing! They had a little beach, so we went straight there for a swim and sun bake! It was beautiful! The little towns are all up on hills and each house is a different colour! Most towns have little bays with small sailboats and a little beach! The photos make it look fake! It is so beautiful! We still had one more town to make it to before completing all 5 towns! We had to walk from Vernazza to Monterosso - possibly the worst decision Erin, Simon and I made was walking and not catching the train with Henry and Kate! It was harder than the last one we did! It was constantly up hill and steep, but I must admit the views were well worth it! Just before we got to Monterosso there was a small hole in a fence and there was a man selling fresh lemonade - it was possibly the best thing I had ever tasted at that point in my life! All I wanted was cold water and a beach! We were all so hot, sweaty and sticky! Monterosso was the biggest town out of them all! The beaches were lined with deck chairs and umbrellas! As soon as we got off the track we went straight to the beach and jumped in the water. I don't think I've ever appreciated a swim so much in my life! I was exhausted! When I got to the end and I stood still my legs would start shaking from lactic acid build up! All up we walked 8km up and down mountains, stairs, flats and rocks only wearing thongs and in 28•C + heat! we were all so proud of ourselves at the end ha ha. We must have looked so funny in thongs - people were dressed in full hiking clothes and boots! After our swim we went to find Kate and Henry! After we all reunited again we set out to look for seafood! We found a restaurant that sold calamari which was exactly what we were after! We had to wait 20minutes before it opened, so we all went to a bar on the beach and had some wine before dinner! After dinner Erin and I had some gelato - chocolate and white chocolate hazelnut! Finally we made it home at around 10pm! It was a very long day and we were all exhausted! The boys went down to the beach and the girls and I had showers and went straight to bed! The shower in our apartment was horrible! Water barely came out of it, so I had to wash my hair in the kitchen sink prior to my shower! Ha ha. Tomorrow we're off to Venice! :)
