The day of the jungle trek had arrived and we had a very early start, we had breakfast at 8.30 and then waited for everyone to get to the truck to drive us to the edge of the jungle...We had a really good group with us there was manuel the german guy we had met previously and there was a Tom and Dee, Gabby and Elisa from france and then there was a right rabble of lads from Devon, Tristian, Sam, Josh, Jake and Lorenzo. They had all been out the night before and were not feeling atall ok especially Sam and Lorenzo who spent the journey hanging out of the back of the truck chucking there guts up on the freeway!! great first impressions :P
When we got to the jungle it was hot! we had to have some food which was rice wrapped in a banana leaf which for rice was really good!! then we had to hang around for a couple of hours because it was litterally too hot to trek in that heat, so we all had abit of a bonding session before we headed deep in to the jungle. Our trekking guide simon (the jungle king) was a wicked guy always coming out with funny comments and we now have quite a few sayings we have picked up from him....Simon actually lives half in chaing mai and half in the jungle, he started the tours himself when he was 18 and is now 37 and has familly in and out of the jungle which is really cool. On the first day we walked alot! i think it was about 4 hours...me and luke felt fine and were full steam ahead at the front of the pack, i cant say the same for Jake though who was being sick for most of the way and was like a lost child in a desert!! hahaha only joking jake ;) when we finally arrived at the first village we were so greatful to sit and rest it was a very long, sweaty and intence 4 hours walking at a fast pace through humidity like that, so we got showered and waited for dinner, there were loads of bugs where we were and the boys were being proper saps and screaming whenever anything touched them or came near them, they were setting each other off which was hilerious (imagine a mexican wave) that was it.
After dinner we got offered to try 'happy sap' so we all went up to the locals hut and all crammed in, im not gona lie it was abit of a crack den but it was a jungle crack den so it was fine and we loved it :) so we tryed the happy sap which you smoke through a pipe which we thought was really nice and really mellowed us out.
On the 3rd day (the best day) we set off pretty early, walking again but this time towards elephants :D we only had to walk through another village to get to the truck that was waiting to pick us up, so we all hopped in and was very glad of a nice breeze. when we arrived at the elephants we each had a guide who sat on the elephants head, not long into the walk we chucked our guide off and i went 1st to sit in the drving seat and loved it!! Our elephant was a greddy git though and everythime i took my hand off her head she put her trunk up in my face wanting banana, luckly we had bought a bag full before we set off, after abit luke got on the front and the elephant ever so nicely sneezed all over us!!! so we were covered in elephant snot!! haha, i got on the front again after Luke and we soon came to a river which the elephants loved in the heat especially the babies as there were rolling around in the water and playing, it was very cute :) we also got complety soaked by the elephant it was great!!
After the Elephants we went bamboo rafting, there was 4 to a raft so us 2 and tom and dee all got on one and was enjoying a relaxing float down the river and then we started to race against the boys, Lorenzo, Sam, Panda boy and Manuel it was so funny because they are 4 biggish guys manuel at the back kept falling out and was in the water most of the way....they started off ahead of us but we were able to pass them so they spent most of the rest of the journey trying to take the lead again, unfortunatly they did! but not till the end :) when we got to the end we had to wait for the other raft of people to come so we stayed in the water (which was full of s***) and play on the rope swing which was wkd!!!
And that was the end of our jungle adventure it was a great 3 days, very hard as we walked about 30 miles!!! but was well worth it not sure if we'd do it again mind! but swe met some cool people who we spent the next 3 days with :) when we got back to BMP guest house in Chaing Mai we all decided to go out for a western meal so we found somewhere that did steak and burgers and all had a well deserved FAT dinner.
