Siem Reap
The sleeping bus from Sihanoukville to Siem Reap was probably our best yet except the Valium gave us all mad dreams and was freaking us out. We arrived on the Wednesday 24th and went to Mad Monkeys hostel. It was early in the morning and we couldn't check in until later so found some really comfortable big beds on the balcony and went back to sleep there. The last few crazy nights in Sihanoukville and Koh Rong had really caught up with us and we felt like we were slowly dying and could sleep forever. We spent the afternoon sunbathing by the pool and decided we needed a night off instead decided to go to the circus which had been recommended to us. However, unsurprisingly, we arrived late and it was full so we couldn't go in. Ellie was especially angry as she had been looking forward to the circus so much but we managed to change the tickets to Friday. We did a bit of shopping and had an early night in preparation for our early start the next day.
On Thursday our tuk tuk driver who had brought us to our hostel picked up at 5am so that we could see the sunrise at Ankor Wat temples! He had was ecstatic when we rung him the night before to ask him to take us as he had been begging is to let him take us when he drove us to the hostel as obviously needed the job. We were all half asleep when we arrived at Ankor Wat. We waited for the sunrise but it was so cloudy we couldn't see it so it was basically pointless waking up at 4am. But we still had a look around the temple and took lots of touristy photos. Our driver then took us on a tour of the others, driving us from temple to temple. They were quite interesting and the stone work and carvings were pretty amazing but they were also quite similar. One temple was extremely tall and Owen and Ross decide to climb up it. We didn't realise they had asked us to take a photo when they got to the top and instead asked the driver to take us shopping while they climbed up...they weren't happy. We all ha some food, went to some more temples, bought some prints for our families and then headed back to the hostel. It was an interesting and cultural experience.
That night we bought a bottle of whiskey for a dollar and plate some drinking games in our room. Then we headed up to the rooftop bar of the hostel and played goon pong and flip cup. We were very annoyed when some extremely annoying American girls beat us at goon pong. Everyone walked down to bar street where there were two main clubs facing rah other and everyone was running between the two and partying on the street. We were all hammered and up dancing in the podium and had a really fun night.
The next day we were all very hungover and spent the day eating Burger King ad sleeping in Ross and Owen's room. Ellie went for a massage. In the evening we went to the circus and got there extra early to make sure we got on this time. It was a strange vietnam circus where people danced and told a story about discrimination. There was fire and some tricks and lots of good gymnastics. It wasn't quite what we expected but we enjoyed it. That night we had to say our goodbyes to Ross an Owen and leave on our overnight bus for Phom Penh!
