Hello again!
well i survived my little adventure up the coast and had lots of fun on teh way too!, very adventurous i must say and i shall fill you in on the main bits. Firstly we left Sydney at about 5am and everything was going smoothly in our friends car until about 6am thats was when it started to act a bit funny and something was definately not right. we drove abit trying to find a mechanics and parked up outside, obviously it being 6 in the morining no where was open so we all settled down for a bit of a sleep in the car till someone could help us! a mechanic knocked on our window about 8, we woke up and got him to have a look. no problem he said, should be fine, we changed a spark plug and off we went on our merry way!.
drove for a while and all was well, nice drive, sunny day, music on, sandwiches flowing and the it happened again! couldn't get it to go over 20mph up hills, kangeroos were overtaking us!. this went on for ages so we stopped in the smallest town ever and searched for another mechanic!! he said it was the fuel filter so we handed over a crisp 10 doller and got ourselves a shiney new fuel filter and off we went again.
now everything seemed perfect and we were crusing along now, so much so that we managed to get pulled over by the police for speeding!! how lucky is that before we couldn't do over 20mph and now they catch us!! that dealt with we continued on our pilgramige to Byron Bay. i took over the driving at Port Macquarie and eveything went smoothly till we reached Byron Bay which is a lovely place. Had to spend the first night camped out with some friends and sleeping in the car which wasn't the most comfortable but fun anyway.
next day we headed off to ninbin (after the car wouldn't start again and we had to go and charge the battery up somewhere). Ninbin is a crazy place up in the hills and is known for its hippy and relaxed culture and i loved the place. its full of weird people and crazy little shops and all you do is chill out in cafes! its brillient. we spent the night sleeping in a teepee (wigwam thing) in the middle of a forest place which we had all to ourselves and got woken up by cows in the filed next to us, it was gorgeous! some great photos.
then we headed back to Bryon where we stayed for 2 nights and nothing very much exciting happened here. had some nights outs, sunbathed on the beach just generally did not much and loved it!. after 2 days we headed off to surffers paradise i was driving and was looking forward to the drive as it was sunny. little did i know that about 40km outside Byron on the main pacific highway the car would decide to lose power and stop on the main road. i had to get it onto the hardshoulder and there it stayed for about 6 hours!!!!!! me and giddy took a trip to the nearest town (and nowhere is near in auatralia) by hitchhiking there, brought some oil, and then hitchhiked back which was actually loads of fun!!. oil didn't work though so we put all our faith in a guy called dan in surffers to get a car and come and rescue us!!. after 5 hours of sitting in the pitch black with lorries practically touching the wing mirrors we were very happy to see dan and tanya (our new best friend) arrive!.
we tried to tow the car along the highway but the rope broke mid tow and we lost fergus who was steering it as he landed in a verge at an intersection. we decided to adandon the car there and come back the next day with a mechanic to sort it out! instead we out in surffers and had a good night, staying at tanya house (for free) as we had nowhere else to stay. Next day her mechanic friend oddie drove out the car (they actually broke down on the way too and we had to go rescue them as well) but eventually we all ended up at the same place and the same time only to find out that the car was a gonner and there was nothing we could do!! oh dear so the only thing we could do was tow it to a wreckers yard and leave it in their capable hands, getting 50 dollers for the pleasure (about 20 quid).
that sorted we went up to oddies house up in the hills overlooking loads of tea plantations and had a party instead! it was great fun and his mum even cooked us all tea! even better!! then we had another night out in surffers which was great and stayed at tanya again!. next day we sorted out bus tickets back to sydney and stayed at a hostel (felt like we couldn't take advantage of tanya any more they are some limits even with backpackers!).played some mini golf i got 2 hole in ones, very impressed with myself and then made the 14 hour coach trip back to sunny sydney!.
so thats it, my trip up the coast it was good fun and quite bizare in places!. so now i am in sydney, anna and fergus left yesterday and think i have only just stopped crying! going to miss them so much, all on my own now so really need to pul my finger out! sure i will be fine though. after this blog update i am job hunting so wish me luck.
anyway hope all of you are ok and having fun! don't forget about and keep me posted on what your up too!! please.
luv me
