Dear all......... Well.....im here! Safe and sound.....and boy Delhi is certainly living up to everything i was expecting! After a comfortable 8 hour journey.....i landed in Delhi airport shocked by the cleanliness and how tidy everywhere was, long queues at the immigration, but otherwise a very pleasant experience.......got to all the taxi men with name boards, and was praying that 'ELLEN MORIARTY' was being held by one of the little men, but there were literally hundreds of them.....but thankfully found him. He was also picking up another couple John and Aiesha who were staying at my hotel, so we waited for them to come through, and turns out they are also on my trip that starts this evening, so was nice to see some British young people are going to be with me for the next month! Got outside, and it was a completely different scene....poverty at its rawest! Kids and adults all begging, but is best to ignore them unfortunately as i had been warned....if you show them even the slightest bit of acknowledgement, it will have them swarming at your feet. Was pretty tough. Anyway, got on my way to the lovely Hotel Good Palace....i was not expecting big things, but have been pleasantly suprised! Little man lugged my backpack up to my room, and i have been waited on hand and foot, all very lovely and charming! Slept like a log yesterday afternoon, and ventured out in the evening for a look around....and was a little uneasy at the hundreds of men on the streets and very few women...so after an hour or so retreated back to my room, although did see the glorious Pizza Hut and Mc Donalds of Delhi.....although am not hugely tempted to visit if im honest!! Plenty of street stalls etc, and shopping is a big thing here. The internet access is next to none from what i can find, and i am currently using the hotel internet for free, although it is frightfully slow and tedious.....but hey, cant expect much else. So far Delhi belly has not hit....ha ha, although saying that ive eaten very little for fear of being ill.....one meal a day is going to do me for the next month me thinks!!! Right, am going to venture into the town now.....see what i can find before i have to be back here to meet the group at 6pm....bit nervous...hope they are nice! Had a lovely hot shower this morning....better make the most of that i suppose!
