We arrived in Hanoi the next day at about 5am. This was not good as nothing was open and it was already boiling and we were quite tired. Anyway...some genius (that would be me!) suggested that instead of spending another day milling about in Hanoi we should go and find a swimming pool! So we did, and spent the rest of the day lazing about the pool..and managed to have a free shower which is always nice when you're doing lots of overnight travelling. Being the lad...

Sumptuous Sapa!!! That evening we got a night train up to the North of Vietnam to a little place called Sapa. We had done lots of overnight buses but hadn't been on a train yet so it was very exciting. Apart from the ridiculously rude and unhelpful people at Hanoi train station, once we found our carriage it was lovely - all wooden and we shared a little cabin with a Vietnamese mum, dad and little baby which was cool. Halong Bay. We were picked up from our lovely super friendly hotel (!) in Hanoi early the next morning and got a mini bus to Halong City which took about 3 hours. It was a fine journey...nothing to report there...i may have slept. Oh we did stop for a loo break along the way at a place with glass doors and an attendant who opened the door whenever she thought you should be finished! We had heard some horror stories about people waiting for hours to get an a bo...

We left Hoi An with heavy hearts the following day and got on a three hour bus to Hue, where we would change buses to get another overnight sleeper bus to Hanoi. The bus to Hue was fine, no vomiting this time. I did get told off however for putting my feet in the isle...wasn't sure what that was all about till i realised there was a Buddha statue at the front of the bus and I was inadvertently pointing my feet at him, which is a horrendous thing to do in Asia. Oo...
