I can't believe I'm still on the Gold Coast! I said I would get a job and be here a few weeks but it's been 3 weeks now and it's absolutely flown by. I work pretty much every day as a Marketing Rep, and stand around in shopping centres hassling people to sign up and donate to charities. I've been fundraising for the Surf Lifesaving so it's not a bad charity, and I know that I raised some money for them if I were ever to get into trouble when out surfing. On that note I now own a surfboard!! My German roommate went home and left me his board because he couldn't take it back and didn't want to sell it. Score! I may have to sell it though, because it would cost too much money to carry it around Australia with me.
So I managed to save up a bit of money from this job but it'll still be pretty tight to get all the way to Cairns on the money I have. I'm trying to save most of it for New Zealand but I also want to do cool things in Australia!! This job would have been good if I was around for a few months to get into it, but I only had a few weeks and I'm not very good...It's given me some life skills though and it's been an insight into the world of sales- a world I'd rather not be a part of!
I've made so many amazing friends in the hostel here, it's like a big family. The hostel itself is brand new and really homely, the bottom bunks are double beds so I'm happy! There's good showers and a really good kitchen, and a massive lounge and a movie room, as well as free WiFi, free Mac computers and free laundry!! It's one of the cheapest places I've stayed in and it's really lovely. I'm in a 12 bed dorm and it's like having a big sleepover every night, there's no lockers so we all just have stuff everywhere and I still feel safe. People tend to not stay that long so I've seen people come and go in my 3 weeks here, but they're all amazing people who I will keep in touch with. When I get a rare day off work it's amazing to go hang out at the beach or something with them, and the hostel has free surfboards so I love getting up and going for a surf first thing in the morning.
I leave the Gold Coast on Monday so I now have this weekend to catch up with people and pack my stuff to move on. It's been interesting to stop and get settled again, and now time to get on the road again!
