Hello from the sunny Gold Coast!
A few updates, I haven't stopped for longer than to sleep in the past few weeks.
After spending a wonderful few days in the city in Sydney, my new friend Sophie and I moved into a hostel on Bondi Beach! We found a cheap place that seemed alright online, and booked a couple of nights. What a surprise we got! It was the worst place I think I've ever stayed in my life, we were so upset even though we were living on Bondi Beach, the place was absolutely disgusting and we could barely stay there! Looking back now, it was pretty funny, but at the time it was so horrible...Sophie ended up staying in my bed one night because her room was so grim. After 2 nights we found a much better place for the same price and stayed there for 4 nights, we made friends with our roomies and it ended up feeling like a massive sleepover! We'd spend our days on the beach or visiting friends in the city, and then we'd all cook a meal in the evening or go out for food and then we'd all sit on someone's bed with blankets and pillows and chocolates and watch films, it was the cutest thing!
Then we packed our stuff up and got a 12 hour bus to Byron Bay, I wish I'd been able to see more of the coast but everyone told us it's best to just go straight to Byron unless you've got a car and pots of money (neither of which we have...) So I managed to bag a double seat and actually got some sleep, which is a first for me- I can never sleep on transport! This gap year has basically taught me to sleep in any conditions, and nap. Yay! We moved into a hilarious hostel in Byron Bay which is in the middle of a forest with massive lizards and turkeys roaming around the place, and is also where they filmed The Inbetweeners 2! We spent 5 days there lying on the beach or by the pool, surfing, exploring and eating (and drinking) lots. We made friends with 2 British girls and a guy from Jersey in our room and ended up going out drinking with them! We explored around Cape Byron with them and spent 6 hours climbing up to a lighthouse to cure the hangover from the night before, we ended up sweating all the alcohol out and had a dip in the pool in the evening when we got back. Just perfect!
Then Sophie and I went our seperate ways, and I headed on up to the Gold Coast where I am now. I stayed with some old friends from when I was in school in Qatar and spent time going shopping and going to the cinema and theme parks and water parks. It was so cool to be part of a family again, and weird to have a room and bathroom to myself!! I spent most of my free time desperately searching for a job, and finally found one on the coast. So I am now one of those annoying people that stops people on the street to try and get them to donate to a charity. I work purely on commission and unfortunately I'm not very good at it so I'm not getting much money at all! It's a bit depressing trying to talk to horrible people all day, and getting absolutely nothing in return :( I also have a trial shift at a restaurant on Friday so I'm hoping with 2 jobs I can work for a few weeks and be able to save enough money to keep travelling. I don't have long left in Australia but I need to stop and work as much as possible to be able to travel the rest of the way without having to worry about money too much, and I need more money for New Zealand! So things are a bit stressful at the moment but this year has taught me that everything happens for a reason, and what will be will be. So I'm just letting things happen, and keep telling myself that there's a reason behind everything and it will work itself out.
Today I wasn't very well so had to take the day off work (meaning I earned no money once again) but took some time to sort myself out and catch up on sleep and other things. I'm better this evening so will get an early night and hopefully be able to have a full day in work and try and earn some more money. Things can only go up from here I guess!
Enjoy the photos I put up too, hope to make you jealous ;D
E xoxo
