Napier is the Art Deco city!!
Napier was destroyed by an eartquake in 1931 and was rapidly rebuilt in only 2 years. The Art Deco designs were part of the 30's way of life and much of the buildings today reflect this.
We stayed with Sarahs Aunt and Uncle who live 5 minutes out of Napier. Arts and crafts are very big here in Napier and it is quite refreshing to see people making things and getting involved with the community!
On the first day at Sarah's relatives they took us to Napier to take a look around the city. Sarah was complaining that she had lots of bites all over her body, so she went to the drs while I went on a cultural and scenic Art Deco walk around Napier! It was amazing. I learnt so much about the place and the architecture.
I met up with Sarah afterwards and we discovered she got bitten by a jellyfish in Fiji and has had an allergic reaction to this. She is currently on antihistamine tablets and will have to take these for a month, on top of her antibiotics for her tonsitis!
On the 2nd day of being in Napier we went to a winery! This was fab, but with us both on anti bi's was not so fab! Drs orders, no alcohol!
We rose early this morning (24th Nov) to get our flight out of the north island of NZ. We got to the airport, only to find that we would be flying on a tiny 20 seater plane and that they would be strapping our luggage to the underside of the outside of the plane! ha ha the last bit wasn\'t true but we hopped up the stairs to our seats which had zilcho leg room! The flight was terrible! it was very very turbulent and it felt like we were on a rollercoaster! Anyhow we got off our flight halfway in Wellington, then we had to get on another matchbox sized plane to Nelson which is right on the coast of the South island.
Its really nice here if not a little cooler than the north island.
We have been in Nelson for 1 day and there\'s not much to do here because its just like any other town. We had lunch in a cafe and met up with two lads we met on the greyhound bus who were going to Vegas wirth us! I went on a walk with them, while Sarah had a rest! We visited a cathedral in the centre of the town and then went on a very beautiful walk to the centre of New Zealand. The view at the top was amazing! In the evening we all went to the cinema to watch the new Bridget Jones movie which is brilliant and so true to life!!!
