Well right now we are in Auckland and have completed our road trip. Handing Sonic back to Wicked was a sad moment.
Since Dunedin we have been pretty busy and seen quite a bit of both islands. After stopping at the south island's most southerly point (Slope Point), and nearly getting blown away to Antartica, we began the drive up to Milford Sound in Fjordland - probably the most scenic drive out of all the scenic drives we've undertaken. Every campsite we stopped at on the way had stunning views. The township itself was tiny and there was nothing to do but cruises (which we couldn't afford) but there were plenty of walks to offer us good views of the fjords.
From here we made our way over to Queenstown for some fun. It was a great place to go out and we both (just about) manged to do a Bungy jump from the original site - fantastic and we both wanted to do another.
On our way back to Christchurch for the 2nd England rugby test we drove up the west coast, through glacier country and Arthur's Pass national park. All of which were stunning. Bad luck and bad weather meant that we didn't see any penguins or get to walk on the glaciers, though.
We enjoyed a longer stay in Christchurch 2nd time around and going to the game was awesome (although the result wasn't!). Our drive back to the North Island took us through Nelson and Picton.
We took a different route back to Auckland, moving along the east coast and stopping in stylish Napier and Gisbourne, supposedly the most easterly city in the world. The scenery on the North Island is very different to the south but still beautiful - alot of green rolling hills and sheep!
NZ has been amazing and we're sad to leave. Unfortunately our blogs don't have much meat because we've seen alot but not done an awful lot besides drive and walk/tramp; but we're looking forward to our last adventure - which is certainly going to be very different (Lara's stocking up on all the Cadbury's choc she can before we fly!).
See you in South America!
