The Bowman Adventures
Hi everyone, well I've made it to the big 3, 0. I spent a wonderful couple of days in a Bolivian utopia chilling out on a hammock, admiring the stunning mountain scenery, drinking plenty of cervezas and basically being spoilt rotten by my beautiful wife. It wasn't easy reaching the utopia though as it involved cycling down the most dangerous road in the world. It nearly lived up to its name as I came off on a sharp turn as I was too busy admiring the views!! Fortunately I crashed into the cliff face and not down the sheer drop on the other side! Only my pride was injured and I decided to take it a little steadier from then on!! After 64km of decent we made it to the bottom, tired, dusty, dirty and with cramp in our small joints due to the dodgy suspension on the bikes!! But we made it and I was glad not to join the statistics of 9 tourist deaths in the last 5 years!! After that exhilaration all we could do was relax in our lovely cabana. Ruth spoilt me on the big day with bucks fizz for breakfast, followed by plenty of beer, some great pressies and then I had a shiatsu massage to ease my weary joints. To top it all we found the best restaurant in town and I enjoyed a filet mignon and a good bottle of Chilean Red. I don't know how she did it but she made it a special day and one I'll certainly always remember.
Thanks to everyone for the messages and greetings they were very much aprreciated.
We are still in Bolivia and spent an interesting day yesterday down some silver mines. It wasn't an enjoyable experience due to more dusty and claustrophobic conditions but after the tour we decided that if we ever complain about work again we'll just think about the guys we saw down there and realise how lucky we are!!
We head off again today to a place called Uyuni where we expect freezing conditions as we explore the salt desert for 3 days - we have prepared ourselves by buying a couple of dodgy Bolivian ponchos but everyone we've met has said that it is so cold you cannot sleep!! After that we're crossing the border into Chile where I'm sure we'll beable to update you on our latest adventures.
It's great to keep hearing from everyone. Keep it up!!
Love Ed and Ruth
PS sorry it's a bit late........but congrats to Matt, Claire and family on the new addition to their family......Samuel. Well done!!
