The day after we arrived, we were wisked off by Calvin (ed's friend from KT) to Mombasa's beach for a bit of feeding up on Veg and Fruit (after being slightly deprived of these in South Sudan. We had some great views from the plane of Kilimanjaro. We both learnt to windsurf during one afternoon there, which was awesome!
Following this, there was a quick turn around and we headed off for Safari in the Masai Mara, during Wildebeest migration season - thousands of wildebeest everywhere. Ed got a chance to drive around in Calvin's 4x4 in the Safari park (as well as in crazy Niarobi night time traffic). We managed to stop a wildebeest migration by stopping for lunch at a crossing point, causing 1000s of wildebeest to pile up as they waited to cross and annoying tourists who sat awaiting the 'must see crossing'. We eventually moved and it was pretty spectacular. The next day, on the cheater hunt we seemed to get in between 3 cheaters and its prey, by being a bit too close to the chase. (However we returned for episode 2 later in the day and the cheater still could not manage to catch its prey, despite the lack of human intervention.)
During our time here, we also visited Calvin's church - a Vineyard church, FEM - Faith Evangelistic Ministries (where Colin Dye will be in a month) and a Christco church for a prayer meeting, which were all encouraging to see and be a part of.
At the end of the time here, we felt as ready as you can be to face the field again...We were very grateful to Calvin Eaton for looking after us and arranging a great time for us there! We'd recommend him as a tour/safari operator!
We uploaded some pictures of our time in Kenya last week. The photos can be found:
