dzasta travels
Ive come here for the ruins. This place was built about 200bc by some old bloke I have never heard of but the thing is it had what was then the worlds biggest library and a Asclepion (hospital) that made this place the worlds greatest repository of knowledge outside Egypt. And they still let me in.
Canakkale was really nice. It was to me a bit European with all the cafes along the waterfront. The weather has turned really good I have been in shorts and t shirt for the last two days.
The tourist ctr booked the shuttle to the otogar and the bus hereto Bergama so that was really easy. The otogar (bus station) was really easy to navigate to the right bus.
The bus has TV screens in the back of the seats like a plane and a trolley dolly like a plane. Ours was a big fat bloke with bad BO but he still did his duty. About 1/2hr after we left he got out his trolley and came down the isle with tea, coffee or softies. It was funny cos he got all the stuff out while wiping the sweat off his face then put on a cheap plastic glove to serve us.
The ride was great cos there was a bit to look at. Some of the views on the towns on the Aegean coast were pretty spectacular. At one point we pulled into a bus station that had Ulusoy posted so I was looking in my book to find the town so I know where I am. Wellllll it is not a town it is the bus company I am travelling on DER!
I hate being on a bus to somewhere that is not a terminus. You can easily miss your town cos I cant read the signs. I asked Fat ******* when we get to Bergama and he said at 1pm. At least I know if we stop about this time it is my stop. At 10 to 1 he gets out his trolley again and gives us all coffee or juice and a bickie. Im thinking he going to be going to get all that done before 1. He did and at about 1.15 we pulled into a truck stop for a lunch break. What the? We had about 20 min here then off again.
Finally at 2.30 they dropped me off at the otogar. Well really at the corner so I had to walk all the way around the otogar to get a shuttle into town. I ended up on the school bus and they dropped me at the wrong place. I didn't know this at the time but luckily I met an old bloke in town and told him I was looking for a cheap hotel. He gave me directions to this one and it is certainly cheap and pretty good for comfort. It is very good location.
So it has been a bit of a mission getting here but that is part of the fun....when it is over.
Tomorrow I am going to try to walk to the Acropolis and the Asclepion. LP says it is too far but I think I can. It is 7km all uphill, I think there and back.
Well today I walked ALL day. All up hill, well it felt like it. Luckily I did the *******e first but I have been to both. Acropolis and Asclepion
