dzasta travels
Very early start today to get all the way to Kigali. We were supposed to stop at Lake Bunyonyi but a truck was attacked there a few days ago so we are not going there. The upgrade last night was well worth it and I am going to look at it all the way home now. I had my own hot shower and dunny and NO SNORING.
The road out of Queen Elizabeth park is very rough then they are doing up the main highway. with the roadworks we were on very very rough roads for about 3 hours.
The new group is starting to settle down now into a new dynamic. There are 2 couples who do nothing around the place, they are always busy doing there own thing when the dishes are to be done etc. There are a few kiwi women and they are really pushy and aggressive. yesterday we saw a leopard and one was pushing me for some reason and today we were stacking pots and one shoved me out of the way and said she could do it. She didn't do any better than me. They are a bit passive aggressive and if they keep it up I might forget they are supposed to be women. Everyone says they are well travelled. I keep hearing "when I was in Spain" When I was in Costa Rica", "we spent 120 days in south America' etc but the dumb questions keep coming. Today we crossed the border and most changed money. I got 670 to $us and the young girls I helped got the same. Everyone else got 600. Some had got the wrong visa when they got to Nairobi so we had to wait for them to get visa. Do they know anything??: Unbelievable!!
Today we crossed the border into Rwanda. We have to be careful cos they don't allow plastic bags so all the people with stuff in plastic bags have to hide them or they will be taken off us. Crossing the border was a bit of a hastle. They wanted to check our bags. I got talking to the cop but he was still busy checking us through. By the time we were finished we were great mates and he is going to keep an eye out for me on the way back.
Rwanda is probably the cleanest country I have ever been to. They don't allow plastic bags and there is no rubbish along the road. The 80km to Kigali is through mountains (Rwanda means land of 1000 mountains) and the hillsides are all terraced and there are crops everywhere. It looks like the whole country is farmland, I have not seen any bush at all so far.
Yesterday the 'adventure travelers" in the group decided to hire a mini bus for the morning and tour a memorial and a hotel. I decided against that and instead hired a moto taxi for 2 hour. Emanuel and I hacked around the city to a couple of museums, the CBD and parliament house. Parliament house still has the built holes from the fighting 20 years ago and they say they going to leave it cos it is history and are minder of the tragedy. Shame it was sunday so not much activity.
We all met up again at the Genocide memorial. I looked for 5min and couldn't get out fast enough. They have explicit video of the bodies and the gore for the morbid to come and gawk at. It was only 20 years ago so these bodies still have family here that might be able to recognize them. I just found it very distasteful.
I am running out of power so I will put up pics in the next few days.

Ngaere Rwanda also has a clean up day every month like we have clean up Australia day. It is a very clean country and has come a long way since the war.
Chris Not long now and you'll be playing golf in Dubai!
Ngaere We upgraded at Queen Elizabeth Park and there was no water at all. Paid for nothing except a bed that night. Glad you saw the Hotel Rwanda - sort of like what you have had on your trip isn't it!!! Enjoy the gorillas.
