dzasta travels
This train trip was pretty easy, only 19hr. The guy in the bunk below me chucked a spaz when I put my foot on his bed. He said no one else was coming in our compartment so I could have the other bottom bunk. Sweet. (I hate top bunk cos you cant sit up on them) So I stash my gear under the bunk and guess what happens at the next stop. You got it. A boy in an army uniform got on and said it was his bunk. They want me to leave my stuff under the bunk and he gonna put his up top. I dont want this cos I cant get my stuff when he sleeping so we to and fro but eventually I win and we swap our gear. Turns out the first guy is a clean freek and OCD. He had all his stuff in just the right placeand wiped all the crumbs off the table when he finished. (he ate like a pig, as if it was his last meal) Both made their beds and stretched out on them so I was relegated to my bunk. Luckily there was a spare seat across the isle so I sat there.
In the morning both OCD and soldier boy made their beds neatly and wanted me to do the same. I said " I dont make my bed at home if you thing Im gonna do it on holidays you are dreaming"
It rained a lot during the night but it is a clear and crisp morning. This is the weather I was expecting, crisp mornings and warm days.
Been in Krasnoyarsk for a few hours and havnt seen anything worth looking at yet. Spent quite a while trying to get into the hostel. It is a very long story and ALL my fault but Anitoli has busted his ass to get me in here and it is really worth it for me. He is out on a tour but sent his friend to get me from a local pub and show me where the place is. The place is huge. Two bedroom, 7 bed, lounge, bathroom, kitchen etc, a proper appartment and I have got it ALL to myself. I have done a load of washing and gonna go look for some dinner soon. This is sooo good I am wrapped with the place.
I know why all the good stuff is hidden away, Its show week. There is some kind of food show in the street I am living on. I managed to find an old lady selling meat on a stick. She even rolled it kebab style with some onion, red sauce and white suace. It was just the best. I also managed to find some more of that horse meat salami I had the other day so I will be having that for breakfast tomorrow. I might never leave here. There is an amusement park set up in a park near the town square. It is very dinky...think Royal show 1970 and you are somewhere near it.
Just when I opened my big mouth about the weather it has turned cold again. I was the only person wearing shorts today and everyone was looking strange at me. It is so cold I am back to beenie and jacket. The other day was 28 today 12.
Today we might get to double figures. It was 9deg when I went for a walk this arvo. I got some pics of a couple of buildings but some that were nearly worthy of a pic were almost hidden by the power lines. I went into a few churches and wanted to get some pics but it is sunday and it is their busy day so I couldnt get any pics. Some were very ornate.
As I said there is not a lot to see here. Most people come for the skiing or Stolbie Nat Park. The skiing finished a couple of weeks ago, even though it was snowing in the hills yesterday. I cant go to the Stolbie cos at this time of year it is infested with ticks and they have encephalitis and Im not sure if I have had the right jabs. I am still happy I stayed here cos it has given me a chance to clean up and get ready for the push to Moscow. I have just done my itinery for the 8th time and I know it will change again. I am trying NOT to do more that 24hr on the train. I could get on the train here and go straight to Moscow and be there in 3 days but that would be hell. I dont know how people do the train trip all the way.
I couldnt get to Tomsk tomorrow so I am going to Novosibirsk tomorrow night. Depending on conections I will be there for 1 day then 21hr to Yekaterinburg. Then Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod then Vladimer and Suzdal....all before Moscow by about the 7th or 8th of next month.
My last day here, I get the train at 7.30 tonight. I have been having trouble getting money from the bank. The ATM will only give me 5000 rubles (and charge a fee) so I went to the teller and they say they cant give me money cos my card has a chip. I can get more money by repeat the ATM withdrawal till I get to my limit. I still get a charge for EVERY time I do it.
Walking back from breakfast I saw a bunch of soldiers and a mob behind them walking up the street. Last time I saw that was in Bishkek and they started shooting at each other. I didnt stick around to see what was going on but from the comfort of my place I can see they are having some kind of ceremony.
The girls at the English school have said I can leave my big pack in their office today till it is time to get the train. They have taken a bit of a shine to me ..they are only human.
I did some shopping this morning and took a couple of pics of the shelves. there are rows ans rows of shelfes of beer and vodka and a few with food.
