dzasta travels
I am back in Bocas town. I went swimming at 6am this morning and the water was cloudier than yesterday. The last 24 hours has been a very expensive waste of time. Today we had thunder and lightening all morning with scattered light showers. I am back in Bocas town and the rain has followed me. It is raining and looks like it has set in. I am just hanging around cos I don't want to go to Panama City too early but the rain is not much fun either. If it is still raining tomorrow I think I might leave here and go to Boquete and then PC and see what happens there.
Today the weather was a little better, still a bit overcast but no rain. So I went to Playa Estrella, also known as Starfish beach. The bus leaves the main street near park central when it is full, usually about every half hour. The bus goes to Bocas del Drago and there you can deal with the taxi mafia or walk. The taxi mafia, in boats, tell you that it is 1/2hr to walk and they will take you for $5 in 5 minutes. Well surprisingly I managed to walk there in 15min. It is a beautiful beach that is totally spoilt by the rubbish shops that line the whole place. The first few are OK but they get worse as you go and the last couple are really just humpys. They all have really **** music blaring from massive speakers. Some would be great but there are too many and it just spoils the place. I went as far as I could from them and had a swim then sat on one of the lounge chairs. Some bloke came and wanted $5 for the chair but I told him it is too big to take home. Surely that wasn't rent for 1 day? The place is called Starfish beach cos they have starfish there. Big orange ones. There are signs everywhere saying don't touch them but the Americans and Spanish still pick them up. They are "not touching them, just getting a photo?"
I caught the bus back and got off near the Bocas international airport. There is a grandstand there and I thought it was for watching the planes till I stopped there. The grandstand is there cos there is a hole in the fence so the kids can get in and play soccer and baseball there right at the end of the runway.
