dzasta travels
Well I really am on the way home now.
The trip on the bus was one of the easiest I have done here. There were only 2 westerners on the bus and they sat me next to the girl from Belgium. I had to explain the couple of stops we made but otherwise she slept most of the way. I managed to get a couple of hours. We arrived at the bus station at about 4am and the usual scrum of taxi drivers greeted us. I negotiated for both of us to go to Motherland, where she is staying, and I could walk to my hotel from there. I checked my map and set off and after a couple of km's I was sure I wasn't where I should have been. There was a place doing breakfast and coffee in the street so I stopped there to check my map again. Note to self "check maps more carefully at 4.30am". I should have turn right then left NOT left then left. I walked all the way back and eventually found where I wanted to be.
The Ocean Pearl is really nice. It should be for $25/night, but that is good price for Yangon. Luckily the room was empty so they let me in at 6am so I jumped into bed and got a couple of hours sleep. I spent most of the day shopping and only bought 2 shirts.
I went to the night markets for dinner tonight. When I was here last time I was having dinner with beer for $6.50 and thinking this is great. Now I walk out at that price cos I know I can get it for $3 or $4. Funny how your perception changes?
Tomorrow I am going to Shwedagon. it is the MUST see for Myanmar so I will post again tomorrow night and I will update this one with some pics at night if I can.
I'm gonna have a couple of quiet days and just veg before I come home.
I went to Shwe Dagon yesterday and that is in another entry. Did some shopping in the morning. After Shwe Dagon I went for dinner near Sule pagoda. I had the national dish of Myanmar, Mohinga. It is noodles in a fish broth with a few other things in it. It was OK but I will not be having it again.
I'm heading home tomorrow. It has been a great holiday, as always, but I have seen enough pergoda's.
