dzasta travels
I got lucky and the hotel I am staying in is really nice. $15 per night including breakfast and veeerrryyy low internet. I walked around town this morning and I think I can name the buildings in the pics but some may be wrong.
Everything here is so cheap. Accommodation is overpriced for what you get but everything else is cheap. Lunch yesterday was chicken curry and rice and 1ltr water for $1.30. Dinner was something and rice and bottle of soda at $1.40. The market up the road has T shirts and womens tops for $1.50. There is not much tourist stuff I would buy but the bit there is is dirt cheap.
This afternoon I walked south or town to a village called Nanthe. It was strange walking around there cos I kept walking through peoples back yards. one minute I was following a path next I was in someone's back yard saying hello to the missus as she was doing the washing. there are only two industries here. Tourism and tomato's. The tomato's are grown on the lake, not near the lake, ON the lake. They produce 80% of Myanmar's tomato's in floating gardens on the lake and ship them all in wooden boxes still. The 26ft high sitting Buddha is said to be 700 years old. Parts of the pagoda are now used for boat repairs and they are getting ready for the busy season in a few months.
Today I organized my next bus trip. The day after tomorrow someone is picking me up from the hotel to take me to an intersection where he will be able to put me on a bus to Hispaw. I leave here at 1pm and arrive in Hispaw at about 5am and the total cost is 17,000k..$17. Sweet.
Im going up town tonight so I might put up some more pics later
