dzasta travels
The trip to Bagan was on the ferry cos I wanted to try a different way of travel. It was a 6am start and the hotel was late starting breakfast so I missed out again. The ride to the ferry on a motor bike taxi with my pack on my back wasn't easy. The extra weight was a bit hard to handle. We managed alright. There are soo many ferries, some go up and some down river.
My driver had a little problem finding the right one but eventually made it and we were a bit early. Everyone is assigned a seat inside and you call dibs on the outside seats. I chained my bag to the seat in front of me and there was enough chain so the german girl sitting there could chain her bag as well. This meant we could walk around without having to worry about stuff getting stolen. As it happened there were only about 15 people on the boat so everything was pretty safe.
The Shwe Keinnery is not the most luxurious boat but pretty nice all the same. It has seating for about 100 but there were only about 15 on this trip, all tourists cos the locals cant afford it and there are faster and cheaper options. They serve breakfast at 7.30 and you get a cardboard box with hard boiled egg and 2 pieces of stale bread. There is a toaster and jam if you want it and coffee or tea. It was not great but just OK.
There wasnt much happening. I thought there would be more to see happening in and around the river. Part of the problem is the river is so wide. In places the river bank is a kilometer away. All the same it was nice to relax and be able to walk around and just slow down a bit.
The thieving *******s tried to charge me 1500k ($1.50) for a can of coke. Usual price here is 600k.
