dzasta travels
Well Im on the way home.
I was packing it at Tashkent airport. You are supposed to have OVIR registrations for everynight in Uzbekistan and I was missing 2. One for the night on the train and one for the night in the yurt. I had receipts for both so I thought that would be OK. You are also supposed to have money change receipts for the money you change. I changed ALL my money on the black market cos the rate was soo much better. Between 2400 and 2000 on the black market and 1600 on the official market. Anyway I kept asking all the official places I went, customs, imigration, etc, and noone wanted the OVIR slips so I saved them for nothing. Noone asked for money change receipts, if fact it was pretty slack all round and a real micky mouse setup. I also took the battery out of my camera so they couldnt check the photos of the metro.
The flight to K.L. was great. There wasnt a cloud in the sky for most of the trip. Flying out of Tashkent, over the Palmir's was incredible. I wish I hadnt taken the battery out of the camera. Karma I suppose. Over K.L. I got a great view of the twin towers. When I got here I hastled the hotel touts at the airport and found somewhere to stay. The Corona Inn in little India. It is another brothel and pretty bad so I have just booked another place around the corner in Chinatown. At the airport they have Burger King. When you walk out the heat and humidity whacks you in the face. They cook on the streets. I love this place. My new hotel is just up the road from 24hs Maccas.
I gotta buy some new shoes today cos the ones I had I threw in the bin in Tashkent. I didnt want them on the same plane as me. I might just look around today, and tomorrow I will go to the bird park. I will try to put up some pics and update here tomorrow.
Ahhh the familiar musty smell of South East Asia. Every where you go it smells like poo. They cook anything you want on the street. (they are cooking frogs next door right now) Satay sticks. I had almost forgotten how good it is.
Yesterday I did a couple of trips on the bus. They have a "Hop on Hop off" bus that does a circuit of the city and stops at the major sights. As it says you get on and off when ever you like and the ticket is good for 24hr. I did a lap yesterday to see the sights and another last night to get some pics at night. The pics didn't work very well cos it was raining but I did get some of the Towers. The Petronas towers absolutely dominate the city. It is a bit hard to get good pics cos of all the buildings around them but at night they are unbelievable. They are all stainless steel and glass and lite up at night is something to see. I went there today to the discovery centre. It is like Scitec, but actually a great bit add for Petronas, with a bit of science. They had a section on F1 and their car which was pretty cool, and a couple of driving simulators. They were fun. This morning I went to the bird park. It is huge and has the biggest aviary in the world. Of course I enjoyed that and got a couple of photos with me in they so you kids remember what I look like.
I did a deal with the hotel today to keep my room til 6pm tomorrow cos I dont fly out till 11.50, Im pretty happy about that, so I can have a shower before I leave.
ASH Air Asia flight D72714 ex K.L. 23.50 arrive PERTH SUNDAY 05.20hr. YES in the MORNING
