dzasta travels
Just after we crossed the border we stopped to do some shopping and for a pit stop. The guide said 10min so I went to stretch my legs. The others couldnt use the facilities in the supermarket so they got back on the bus. As I was walking back, well in time, I saw trhem driving away. Seems some of the others were dying to go so they took off. I kept walking in the direction they went but there were a couple of major turns and I wasnt sure which way they went. I decided to wait cos eventually they would come back looking for me, and I know where they are going to stay tonight so I can always get a taxi there to meet them. Eventually they did come back.
I at Kande Beach on Lake Malawi and will be here for a couple of days so I have upgraded to a room. I have had a shower and washed my clothes so Im good to go again. I will prolly update this in a couple of days and post photos then.
Kande Beach is the usual tourist trap. just a beach on Lake Malawi, nothing special about it except it is in the middle of Africa and you don't see too many beaches around here. The usual young boys hounding you on the beach and the road outside the campground, but they are not as bad as some places I have been. they are selling the usual stuff like carvings and paintings. Also they advertise other activities like horse riding and sailing etc. The wind has been blowing quite hard while we have been here and picked up even harder in the night, so not much good for swimming. The waves were like Cottesloe on an average day.
We had a few beers last night and when we compared notes, we had all paid different prices for the same beer. One of the guys got ripped off on change from the internet, so he thought he would have a quiet word with the tour leader, he thought Intrepid should know. The trip leader had a huge rant that we should have changed money at the border like he said, or change at the office, and carried on for about 10min about paying in local currency or US$. He had told us they take US$ and they did so we were trying not to change to local and back again. The point wasn't the currency exchange it was about the different prices. Another epic fail
There was a village tour and the cost was $10 but everyone was told to take money for a donation to the hospital and a donation to the school. I declined. The people who went said it was expensive and nothing special.
After a couple of days sitting around finally we are off again. We had a scheduled stop at Msuzu. The supermarket was massive and we all stocked up on cakes and chocolates. I got pics of the local taxi and the airport. (I will post them when I can) we arrived at Chitimba camp early, about 1pm, so we have nothing to do again today. We all upgraded to rooms cos we have early start tomorrow,5am, and another border crossing into Tanzania. We have 2 hard days of travel with long drives to get to the good stuff.
