The border between India and Pakistan. Attari is the Indian side Wagar is the Pakistan side. Everynight they have a closing ceremony, on both sides, to officially close the border for the night. The ceremony is soo big they have built grandstands for the crowds that come everynight. It is pure Hollywood... I should say pure Monty Python. It reminded me of Monty Python doing the 'Ministry of silly walks'. It involved lots of goose stepping, stamping feet, high kicks and shouting. They do in on both sides of the border and for a while when the gates are open they do it in unison. Each side mirrors the other and the crowd get right into it. At a point the anouncer had the Indian crowd chanting the Indian version of Ausie Ausie Ausie oi oi oi. Then they lower the flags in perfect unison and march it back to the club house for the night. There must have been close to 5000 people there last night on the Indian side and a couple of thousand on the paki side. I cant do it justice in words and the pics wont do it justice either, you will have to wait till I get home with the DVD. Thats right I bought the DVD. I enjoyed it so much I might go back again tonight before I leave. Im supposed to be sorting my train ticket at 6.30pm but the train doesnt leave till 9.40 so I think I will go to the border again tonight. UPDATE I did go the second night. I went and found the same cab driver and paid the $2 fare and went. It was better the second time cos I knew what was going to happen so I knew where to look. I went over board with the tip. I gave Haajib $1 for looking after my gear. I know its not like me to be so fast and loose with the tipping money but me and Haajib are mates now cos we've been to the border together twice now. While I was waiting for the cab I was snooping around the bazar's and came across a heap of knife shops. Apparently to be a Sikh means you have to carry a knife and they carry all sorts. There are some pics for you to see.
