dzasta travels
The second biggest city in Guatamala and I couldn't get here a few days ago. Now I'm here cos I couldn't get to Chichicastenango. The name is shortened to Xela (shella), I dunno why it just is. So it seems me no es habla espaniol? It was chaos at the bus station this morning and all the drivers were yelling the town they were going to. One said Xela and I said Chichi he said get on. We "talked" for a while and I thought he meant I get off in Chichi and the bus keeps going to Xela. I know we didn't go through Chichi so when we got to Xela I asked him and it turns out I have to catch a bus back if I want to. I don't really care, these towns are all the same there is not much special to see it is just a matter of getting around and seeing a different side of things. The guy drove like a maniac on the mountain roads but it was lucky we were full cos it kept everyone in their seat. We were squashed in 3 or 4 to a seat and standing.
So we arrive in Xela and I have no idea where I am. Well where in Xela? I found a hotel near the bus station so I can dump my pack and it is handy for tomorrow. I walked outside and thought I knew where I was on my map so I started walking. I found a couple of those PMT blokes and asked them and one showed me I was off the map. I was kinda right but heading the wrong way. I followed the map trying to find ParkCentral. I seemed to be lost and not making much headway. I knew I was close but just couldn't find it then I spied a soldier guarding a theatre so I asked him. Turns out he is from out of town and has no clue either but he asked a kid sitting there. The kid said keep going and finally I found it. Not much to see here. Then I found my way home via a short cut without the map.
There is not much to see here but I got some pics around town and while I was out I spied an ice cream shop doing banana split for $2 so that was my 2 fruit for today.
Ill be on the bus early tomorrow to Panajachel. ( pana ha ya shell)
