Kolins Travels
After the Inca trail the tour went pretty fast. After a massage post Inca trail and a crazy night in a Cusco we flew to Arequipa. Arequipa has a beautiful plaza but its situated literally in the middle of nowhere in barren dry surroundings.
From there we head to Corporaque to bath in hot springs with beers!! These Peruvians know how to take your money I tell ya! Beer in a spa...Im sold..cervesa ! Earlier in the day we had the option to go horse riding through the beautiful surroundings....historically I haven´t done alot of horse riding and started off slow and cautious. However, my horse WANTED to run. I raced this horse around like I was loco!!! Really good fun trying to trample my colleges too....but it did make my butt hurt for a few days! lol (but well worth it!)
Colca canyon is the deepest canyon in the world and I saw one condor pretty close up which was amazing but the distance travelled to get there to experience this was ridiculus!. Hours on a bus on a "road" being thrown around caused some tempers in the group to snap!
Heading back to Arequipa, Matt, Team Norway (aka Oystein and Henrik) and myself experienced a rather drunken night out on the town knowing that we had a free day the following day. Then on a night bus to Nazca!! Nice!
There is nothing in Nazca apart from the Nazca lines which can be viewed via a cheap 6 seater plane. Period. This was brillant and well worth it..the Nazca cemetry tour on the other hand was terrible with skeletons arranged in various positions in holes in the ground! There´s alot of history there but the tourist "attraction" has definetly "got it wrong" I feel. (I should have stayed at the pool..nevermind!lol) Also the hotel seamed to be surrounded by rubble, Nazca was leveled by an earthquake (I think) so I guess it makes sense!
Next stop Pisco for er....pisco sour tasting at a winery around Huacachina. Initially the best part of the day was spent sandboarding and being driven at break neck speeds in Dune buggies across the dunes. Lunch was at an oasis!! It was such good fun watching people do face plants into the sand!! (me included!) On the higher dunes the only way down was lying on a board head first...more speed and less chance of breaking your neck! It was such an amazing day!! I also decided to run around naked in the desert...why? Im not too sure but the photos are pretty funny!!lol Had to keep my socks on too because of hot sand!
Another highlight was visiting the Ballestas Islands which is a protected wildlife preserve taking in South American Sea lions, penguins and thousands of birds.
So, the tour ended in Lima with another crazy night out!! To be honest, theres not alot in Lima, its just another city to me..roll on Equador and the Galapogos! Need to buy a new camera!
