Land in Thailand late afternoon. After a long 40 minutes queing, we soon realised the wait was not needed, as British citizens need no visa on arriving if staying under 30 days.
We pressed on through immigration, grabbed the bags and tasked ourselves to find a taxi.
After a surprisingly smooth transition into the taxi, we found our way to our Hotel, the Navalai River resort, in downtown Bangkok, just 5 minutes walk from the imfamous Khao San Road.
We checked in and left our bags locked in the room and then had a wonder around the area, by this point it had already gone dark. The area was very busy and very touristy, with the recuring sight of bearded "professional travellers" living 'the dream'.
The combination of heat and the hustle and bustle of the chaotic streets was the culture shock we were expecting. It was exciting if a little weird, especially being offered 'ping-pong' shows every 20 meters!
We headed to the famous Khao San Road, stopping to try street cooked Pad Thai noodles.....incredible!! It was what you would expect of the backpacker hub of South East asia, stalls selling local foods and products, as well as many repetitive slogan t-shirts and lighters. We even saw a shop that seemed to specialise in selling ninja stars and knives.
A MaiTai and some people watching later, we headed back to the hotel for some well needed rest.
