One year with no football! How will they survive?
Hey friends, So then, our experience of Philly on Wednesday was interesting to say the least! We went into town via the bus and the Subway. The people that ride the subway in Philadelphia are parallel to those inside a mental asylum; we were graced with a middle aged man preaching to himself in a high pitched tone twinned with a young bearded man shreiking and holding a rack of nail varnishes!!! The actual stations were obviously built about 30 years ago, and have since encountered no maintennance whatsoever, the trains were so loud that they could have literally woken the dead! When we got into town, one of the main attractions: The City Hall, unfortunately had scaffolding all over it, however, we still took a picture. Tony then took us to a sports memorabilia shop, which we definitely appreciated, it was sort of similar to "Toffs" and it had many retro jerseys from several years ago...very interesting. We then proceeded down Chestnut Street and saw The Old City, which had many nice buildings that reminded us of home. We managed to catch the Charlton V Man U game in an Irish pub called "The Dark Horse" where we must pay tribute to the "Chelsea fan" that strutted in 67 minutes in to the Middlesbrough Vs. Chelsea game, only to see Pogatetz and Viduka net goals to beat Chelsea therefore making this "poor guy" on the receiving end of an intense ribbing! After a long Siesta we headed out to Dubs's other mate (who he met in Spain) Ray's bar "105 Social" in Manayunk, the student area of Philadelphia, an area that is jam packed with bars. We had a darts competition with two other American couples who were a bag of laughs! One of the guys went to school with Tim Howard (Jon, I included that bit for you!) Dubs wanted to cheat in the Darts competition but Cess was having none of it! We lost (narrowly!) Ray showed us a good time and bought us loads of drinks! However, we forgot our camera again! Gutting! The next day we got the good old Greyhound back to Manhattan, felt like we were coming back home because we really missed Flora, Julian and Rudy! xxx
