Year-long Retirement Odyssey
Early in the morning, we were up and about, preparing to board a bus which would take us to the Rogue River jetboat boarding area. We had to arrive at Central Point by 9:30 to fill out the usual indemnity forms. Sharon, Hannah, Eli and I boarded the bus for a short ride while Roxie stayed in the office (to stay cool) while we were riding the Rogue River for two hours. I didn't want to get wet, so I asked to be seated where I was least likely to get splashed. So, we sat on the back row with the grandkids on either side of us ~ hoping they would get splashed (which they wanted), but we would be spared.
The driver of the jetboat was an excellent guide and safe pilot of the rapids on the river. He gave us indepth history of the river, pointed out historical sites of an army post and Indian settlement, and showed us where a final treaty was signed between the Oregon territorial governor and the chief of the tribe. Many beautiful homes were alongside the Rogue River, some belonging to very famous people. For instance, we saw the home of Jim Belushi, Pierce Brosnan, and other famous actors and CEO's of companies.
We made one stop during the jetboat experience in order to stretch our legs, use the facilities and for the young ones in our group to find arrowheads. I thought it was a little fishy, but all the kids were delighted with their finds ~ so I wasn't going to splash cold water on their enthusiasm.
We finished the day with lunch in Jacksonville, OR, at a nice Mexican restaurant and a nap for the old folks while the grandkids explored the campgrounds that where we were staying. The rest of the afternoon and evening, Sharon and I played like we were retired..... :-)
