We'd spent a number of days in the St. Louis area just dealing with repairs to our trailer and other business, but we decided to explore the area that Saturday. We found out the town near Daniel Boone's homestead and death and burial places was having a 200 year anniversary festival, so we decided to check it out. We drove out into the country from where we were camped. It was farmland, very green and picturesque. The festival in Marthasville was kind of winding up for the afternoon, but we saw an interesting display all about the area's history at the city park. We also visited the quilt show at a historic church in town, St. Paul's United Church of Christ. We enjoyed chatting with the friendly quilting ladies and viewing their handiwork -- along with much older quilts on loan for the show. On the way to the Boone home, we visited the graves of Daniel and Rebecca Boone and relatives on Rebecca's side of the family. You just stop along a country road, and there they are, with a small marker to identify them. Then we drove to a reconstruction of a village from Daniel Boone's era. At that site is the home of one of Danie's sons, Nathan. It is much as it was when Boone lived there during his latter years. We had a great tour of the home with a guide dressed as a pioneer. It was a great way to spend a day.
