Year-long Retirement Odyssey
\] The morning dawned bright and clear with just a few high clouds. We packed up and left Trenton, ME and Acadia National Park behind, driving up the state highway towards the I-95 freeway. Since the I-95 spans the length of the eastern seaboard, we will be using this freeway off and on as we travel southward to Florida.
We joined the I-95 at Bangor and turned southward. The I-95 took us to the westside of Augusta, the capital of Maine. Shortly after passing Augusta, we took the I-295 split from the I-95 as 95 turns into a toll road. The I-295 went more along the Maine coastline AND it will take us through Freeport, which is the home of LL Bean's headquarters. We will backtrack and visit LL Bean tomorrow.
The next city that we passed through was Portland. With traffic moving so fast, there was no time to get any pictures. Exiting the freeway is not an option, unless you know where you are going. Maneuvering a 35' trailer behind a RAM 2500 is not easy, believe me (to quote our president)! So, we kept going and enjoyed seeing the city's skyline from the elevated freeway.
It was a short drive from Portland to Old Orchard Beach where we would spend the night. It was early afternoon when we arrived at the campground. Sharon and Arlene went into the Portland area to find an Apple Store. Roxie and I stayed behind to get some rest. When they returned it was time for dinner, laundry and turn in for the night.
