Year-long Retirement Odyssey
Our year-long adventure started a day late. The original plan was to depart on September 1st. However, there were still things to wrap up preparing our house for leasing out while we are traveling.
We started out from our neighbor's house, Debi Kline, at 10:30, September 2nd. I was driving the truck and trailer while Sharon drove the Mercedes. We are taking the Mercedes up to Sharon's sister and brother-in-law's house to store it while we are traveling.
We stopped in Valencia at a neighborhood park to have lunch in the trailer. After lunch, we started out again and needed fuel near Los Banos, CA. "GasBuddy" showed that a Shell station near I-5 had diesel fuel. When I pulled the rig into the station, there was no diesel fuel. Now I had pulled into a tight area, so thought that I could back-up a little and by-pass some cars at the pump. In pulling forward, the trailer hit a white post right at the electrical connection on the left side of the trailer. What a humbling experience ~ I had an audience watching me!
After backing out of the station with Sharon's help, there was another gas station that had diesel at a reasonable price in Los Banos. After fueling up, we started out again as the sun was setting. Finally, we pulled into the RV resort at 7:30. We were tired! A quick dinner and we settled down for the night.
