Year-long Retirement Odyssey
Little did we know that today was going to be a looooooong day! Going into Canada and be able to use your mobile phone and have texting/internet service is a tricky thing - unless you are rich! We are with Cricket Wireless and for an extra $10 a month for each of us, we are supposed to have good coverage in both phone and internet service. However, having said that, we are waiting for our first bill to see if that is true. Jerry found out that their mobile service would work in Canada, but there would be roaming charges that would be tacked on, costing potentially hundreds of dollars. So, after leaving Jerry & Arlene's house, we drove by Costco so they could switch to a service that would be compatible in Canada without the high add-on costs.
We left the Allen's house at 9:45 am, went to Costco. However, we didn't get on the road from Costco until 2:20 pm. Ineptness on the part of both Costco and the old and new phone services took all that time to get everything figured out and their mobile phone activated. I made 3 visits to the food court while we were waiting. But in defense of Jerry & Arlene, it wasn't their fault!
We were going to cross the Canadian border and drive up to Kaleden, British Columbia for the first night. It was only a three hour and 10 minute drive, but to me, it seemed like about 8 hours.
Our first campground was the Camp-Along Resort at Kaleden, which overlooked Vaseux Lake. We were given a perfect RV spot, parked and stayed connected, ready to leave the next morning.
