Sunday 29 August
Wet day today! But a recap on last night at Finlays was fab! Just a big tin shed with a lot of add ons , with an open fire, old boats around the place and a lot of memorabilia. The attraction , besides the yummy food! Is the bloke cooking – Gary,,,, such a laugh when he calls out your number or if you go past he will make some comment – such as when Liam went past he was picking his nose so the bloke goes ‘ oy stop picking your nose pipsqueak’ lolololol Anyway was lovely feast!
This morning we decided the rain wasn’t going to stop us doing things so we ventured to the Kalbarri Wildflower centre where we did a 1km walk through the wildflowers . Boys were good – they were trying to spot kangaroos and emus! But they were too noisy so probably scared em off! Hahahha
Then we travelled to the Parrot Centre -0 this was fab and a must on anyones itinerary to Kalbarri! It was built like a big maze type structure with lots of aviaries with different parrots from around the world. The gardens and pools and fountains added to the area set a lovely mood .... and the parrots and other birds were fantastic... There was a big walk thru aviary which was great! We spent about 2 hours here.....
The arvo was just hanging around.... Dave had another go fishing...... no luck.... again!
Monday 30 August
A quick pack up from Kalbarri and on the road by 845am! Heading south, we came into some beaut sunshine but soon clouded over an hour later.! Bummer..... Headed to Geraldton, had a bit of lunch and visited the HMAS Sydney Memorial which was constructed in 2001 as a memorial. The HMAS Sydney was actually found up near Quobba in 2008! Went out to view the windfarm where all the big windmills that generate power are.... Awesome! Each blade 41 meters long! Just out of Geraldton at Greenough, there were trees totally bent over. This is how they grow because of the salt winds that sweep through
A bit of rain on the way and more threatening clouds coming, we decided to stay in Point Denison near Dongara south of Geraldton.... nice town. A highlight for the boys was to see a large crayfish boat being taken out of the water on this huge trailer. We have a spot on the beach... love the sound of waves lapping when I go to sleep!
Tuesday 31 August
Headed down the coast towards The Pinnacles. The road in was under roadworks and because of the rain..... well , do I need to talk about all the mud that caked on to the car and van! YUK. Anyway we thought we’d look at the Pinnacles whilst the sun was still shining. However, the rain was persistant and had some drizzle. The sun poked its head out enough for us as we drove the 4km route through the Pinnacles. Quite lovely to see all these sand ‘growths’ coming out the ground. The funny thing is there are so many theories on how they became! So no one really knows.
Headed into the town of Cervantes where we stayed the night. Quaint little seaside village. Would be lovely here in the summer months.
Wednesday 1 September
Off to Perth today. Was only 260km away. The days are getting cooler for sure. The roadsides are still greeting us with beautiful wildflowers as we drive by. Saw another windfarm on the way down. They do look spectacular!
We checked into Karrinyup Waters CP where we will be for 7 nights as we have a look around Perth.
Thursday 2 September
Sun shining and cool morning! Brrr.... After some domestic chores we headed into Perth via the coast and local beaches. Always looks lovely in the sun! Went into Kings Park to have a look in here. It is huge!1004 acres! It was the start of their Wildflower Festival month so saw heaps of wildflowers again. Had a walk through the gardens which had some lovely viewing spots over Perth and the Swan River. The Federation Walkway goes right through the trees on a long bridge. Really a lovely spot. We drove around to the Synergy Park part of the park where a huge playground is. Waterways, dinosaurs! , obstacles for the kids! Was really cool and of course Liam loved it especially because there were about 200 kids there! Mostly from schools on an excursion.
We drove through the city centre- all those traffic lights! And we got them all of course! Lolol. Back through the suburbs we stopped at the Toys R Us store! One of the things Liam has been looking forward to since Broome! Lololol Except he calls Perth – Earth... lolol So, after a toy fix, did a bit of shopping for food and headed back to camp. In for a cold night tonight!
