Sunday 22 August
At Cape Range National Park this morning- pack up time and heading off. Not too wet a night so that was good. Said goodbye to our Camphosts, Les and Gloria and headed into town to fill on water and petrol. Travelling down the coast we stopped in at Coral Bay. Was a lovely little spot- just had a pub/motel, 2 caravan parks and a small shopping area. THats it! Lololo The parks were chokkas! Jack,Liam and I went on a semi-submersible boat to view the coral reef in Coral Bay. Was more for Liam as he hadn’t seen under water at this stage! He thought it was great! Was just for an hour and saw heaps of coral and different types of fish. Also went up on deck and fed some of the spangled emperors. Dave had time out at the bar while we were cruising.
We headed off south again and stopped at a rest stop just before Minilya Roadhouse. About 20 campers there for the night.
Monday 23 August
Another spotty rain night again and a bit chilly. We are now into our jackets! Brrrr.. heheheheheh Headed into Carnarvon for a bit of shopping before we headed north from here to Quobba / Red Bluff which the latter was about 140kms from Carnarvon. So really, nearly at the tip towards Coral Bay, though there is no road through. The road was mostly bitumen through to Point Quobba and the Blowholes which were quite spectacular blowing about 30 metres into the air! Point Quobba was just a camp ground with funny little tin shed shacks! But I mean really tacked on and definitely not passed by council! Some were just old vans with no wheels and a bit of iron for an awning!
Heading further north we passed the Quobba Station which was also a campground. Dave wanted to surf Red Bluff – so continued on a really bumpy and corrugated road ( I know we said never again!) hahaha and arrived at Red Bluff. Coming around the corner was amazing with a whale sighting straight up to greet us. Checked in at the homestead and picked our site overlooking the sea – a great 180 degree view of the ocean, bluff and bay. Thought we had done every type of toilet in Oz, but the ones here dotted around the extended campsite, were palmfrond walled ‘rooms’ with a long drop and sawdust! Also had a little soap dispenser to wash your hands! Pretty cool actually....
Tuesday 24 August
The morning greeted us with a wet campsite. Wasnt heavy but enough to puddle on our awning! Dave already in the water at 730am ( brrrrr ) donned with his rashie, springsuit and wetsuit top! Just a chill out morning – fixed heaps of stuff in the van again! And just packed and tidied up.....
Though it was still raining in the arvo we headed to the Bluff area where there is a beach and caves and did a bit of fishing. Dave caught a gold spotted trevally which made a nice entree for our Tom Yum!
Wednesday 25 August Happy Birthday Oma / Thursday 26 August
A beaut sunny morning today... was tempting to stay another night but... was windy and more clouds coming in in the arvo. Dave had a last paddle and surf out at Red Bluff while Jack Liam and I packed up the van as much as we could and chilled out until it was time to go.
Headed to Carnarvon where we stayed for 2 nights. Was hoping to travel on the Coffee Pot train across one mile jetty but it wasn’t operating!!! That’d be right! Liam was a little disappointed. However we walked the whole mile and back for a bit of excercise.
Came back to the park, chilled out. Liam and I did a bit of shopping and thats pretty much it. Carnarvon is a nice little seaside town but not much to do for us all. So heading to Kalbarri tomorrow.
Friday 27 August
Up and at ‘em! Pumped up to get going on the road we departed around 830am for a 500+km drive to Kalbarri. Not much to see at all though we did see some wedgetailed eagles – just not quick enough to get the camera out. The scenery started to change about an hour from the turn off into Kalbarri where it went green! And some wildflowers started to appear! ..... there were fields of snowy white little flowers! Was quite lovely and different to what we have seen so far.
On the way into Kalbarri we darted off to Kalbarri National Park – one of the look outs ; Hawks Head. Very pretty! As you can see by the photos. What we had remembered when we ( Dave and I ) were here 17 years ago. Kalbarri was the same too. A lovely little seaside town on the Murchison River with heaps of things to do. Reminds us a little of Yamba actually.
Checked into the caravan park right in town, opposite the boat ramp and daily pelican feeding area. Nice park with heaps of gorgeous pink bouganvilleas! Set up camp for 3 nights minimum and chilled out the rest of the arvo.
Saturday 28 August
Did the rest of Kalbarri National Park today. Did about 2.5kms of walking trails to lookouts etc. The views are spectacular as are the gorges and stone formations. On the way in we had a treat! An emu with her 6 chicks crossed the road...... they were only about 40cms high! The ZBend was our first stop with lovely views down through the gorge and river. Our next stop was the Nature Window – was packed with people here but a lovely spot for photos. Jack even did a climb! Hahahahahah ( see photo! ) Liam just liked climbing the rocks and throwing stones! Typical little boy.....
Back to camp for some lunch, a bit of relax then walked across to the river for a bit of fish feeding....lololol if you know what I mean! Hahahahahah Liam had fun in the playground and on the beach area.
Tonight its off to Finalys BBQ..... if you sing for your supper they give it to you free apparently!.. can just imagine Liam up there.... heheheheheh
