I am sure you will be glad to hear that we survived the night!! But not because the beds stayed up, but because we had the genius idea to put the mattress on the floor so that every time we moved it didn't feel like an earthquake. I'd like to say it all went smoothly but unfortunately topping and tailing with me meant that Emma ended up with a face full of sudocrem (I was attempting to heal my mosquito bites on my leg) ad I woke up with Emma's toe up my nose (well almost..). Oh well backpacking isn't meant to be glamorous now is it! Emma's grand idea of playing I spy at 2am was particularly well received when she decide to spy something beginning with M. Mattress was naturally mine and Amy's first guess but no... Emma pointed at the ceiling indicating a mosquito and squealed malaria. As you can imagine we slept well after that!!!
We arrived in Ko Phi Phi via a ferry boat from Phuket. The journey only took 1.5 hours and we were able to see the beautiful islands which surround Ko Phi Phi from the deck where we had taken the opportunity to stock up in vitamin d. After checking in to our room we slapped on for the first time on this trip our bikinis and hit the beach for some serious tanning. When I say serious I mean serious - Emma managed to burn 80% of her body, I burnt 40% and Amy is beautiful bronzed so we aren't talking to her anymore lol.
That evening we booked ourselves in for a yoga class at mama beach bungalows which was right on the beach a mere 100 metres from tonsai beach. This was amazing! We got to experience a beautiful sunset and even some spectacular lightning from our little wooden platform and I can honestly say there is nothing more relaxing than doing yoga to the sound of waves. After yoga we went for dinner with some diving instructors who had also been at yoga and it was nice to get tips from them about the island and places to go. We ate at cosmic restaurant which was so delicious we went back the next day. Since we were staying at Ibiza hotel which was right next to all the busy bars we decided it would be a crime not to pop out for a drink. We didn't realise that one drink would end up in getting to bed at 5am! I can honestly say I saw something's that night that I won't see anywhere else. My personal favourite moments was watching drunk tourists play with skipping ropes which were on fire - I can't even begin to explain how much we screamed when they end up stepping on the road but for some stupid reason they kept going back for more. The owners put on a brilliant fire show afterwards and then the dancing began. We went from bar to bar along to beach trying out the different buckets whilst dancing under the stars. Emma decided she wanted to try a sheesh pipe for the first time so found a cool chill out spot where we just laid in the sand taking everything around us in. We befriended some lads from Manchester who saved us from a pervy waiter and ended up spending the evening hanging out together.
After a mere 2 hours sleep we got up and embarked on an all day boat trip around the islands. The trip was amazing despite our hangover and apart from an irritating French man who was 40 going on 7, insisting on scrambling to the front of the boat every 5 seconds just in case he missed something, we had a brilliant time. The trip went to maya beach ( where they filmed the beach) bamboo island and we stopped off at some fantastic snorkelling sights. We saw beautiful fish which were bright green and blue and we even found some purple creature which lived on the coral and which shrank inside its little home every time Amy's size 7's came close to it. As you can imagine this turned into a great game! We also stopped off at monkey island which has changed since I last visited phi phi. Instead of a beach we went to a small corner of the island where the monkeys came out from the rocks and climbed from the tree branches onto our boat. As our tour guide tried to coax one monkey onto our boat, the monkey responded by going for a wee and guess who was in firing range. Thankfully by a mere second I managed to escape getting a face full of monkey wee but I think it's safe to say he wasn't as happy to see me as I him! Exhausted but satisfied with a few more freckles to the collection we arrived back to phi phi mainland and as mentioned earlier we hit up cosmic for another delicious meal. After dinner I decided to let dad know I was still alive on Skype during which the girls decided to treat themselves to a mani pedi next door. As I entered the shop 40 minutes later I was greeted with grimaced faces and not quite the relaxed girls I had intended on meeting. To sum up their experience Emma's toe was profusely bleeding after her ladyboy had ripped a chunk of skin off the side of her foot and Amy's long nails had been filed down within an inch of their life and her manicurist had decided to paint half her
finger as well as her nail. I was also told that Amy had received a complimentary massage which consisted of her neck being snapped in half her head flopping and Emma squealing "Amy's dead". Needless to say I missed out on quite an interesting experience.
On our last day in phi phi Emma decided to get a bamboo tattoo on her foot. She decided to get a thai saying which translates as "today is better than two tomorrows". This was her favourite buddhist saying which we had read in one of our endless Wats and after our friendly monk in Chiang Mai said he considered this to be most important teaching of life, it was a done deal. Watching emma get a tattoo was like watching her giving birth. I have the video to prove it! Since every little bamboo stab made her want to cry Amy got the job of holding her hand (she now only has 3 fingers left) and I had to remind Emma to breath to take her mind off the pain. When Emma broke into song along with the CD player to Bryan Adams everything I do, we knew she had finally snapped. It did however make great tv and you can be sure that we recorded it for you all to enjoy! Once tears had been shed and her foot was complete there was enough time for one last stop in Thailand's famous 7 Eleven before bordering the ferry service for our next adventure in Ko Lanta.
