Such a slow start this morning! These group of aussies must think they are on holiday or something!
By the time we finally got organized and out of there, it was 1:15 before we arrived at the Calico Ghost Town.
What a place! We loved it. An old silver mine- now a tourist trap and by golly we ate it all up. The highlight was Dano- a huge character with so much time for us. He chatted with us for quite a while and ended up being our tour guide at part of it. He is a fantastic story- weaver and had us all entranced, especially the 7 yr old.

I highly recommend the place! If you go- ask for Dano!
Today's highlights :
Walmart!!!!- man, that place is amazing! A lady yesterday told me scornfully that Barstow only had one good store- the Walmart and it wasn't even a SUPER Walmart!
I can't imagine what that would look like.
We were there for ages.

Funnest purchase: butterscotch chips and souvenirs for the cousins!

Surreal moment: assisting a new father to find breast feeding pads for his wife.

Random quote: 7 yr old called out loudly with excitement: 'Look at that female standing up on the rock up there!' ????

Cultural Difference I noticed: the people of Walmart wondered around having much louder conversations than we would ever have ; especially noticeable were the teenagers with parents. Much more audible conversations. If I spoke that loudly in public to the eldest two, they would shrivel up and spit out the pip. But everyone was very natural and open about more audible conversations! :)
