Saturday - Planned early breakfast at hotel, but not to be, a group of Chinese tourists had planned better and about 50 turned up so we decided on a rerurn later which worked out well as dining area near empty. Had continental breakfast and then off to start the day. To the tram stop to buy tickets, finally worked out which buttons to press and dials to turn for tickets which duly came. Off to the tram station and away after a short wait. Trams are very moden and comfortable and excellent viewing so could see all the beautiful buildings and parks on the way to another museum, this time trains. This museum is just fabulous and we were both amazed by the quantity and quality of the displays from the very first steam trains to the latest bullet type trains with world record speed of 574 kilometres per hour. The information provided by handheld recorder was fabulous with detailed history on nearly all displays. The older steam trains of the 1930 and 40's were absolutely huge and in brand new fully operational condition. The work that has gone into them is astounding. There were cutaway versions of the full size steam trains to show how everything worked and one steam loco was in operation with all drive systems going but lifted slightly off the rails to stop it from actually moving. There are displays of everything including all the wagons for freight, passengers and royalty all just amazingly restored. There was even an amazingly beautiful Buggatti built train powered by 4 x 200 horsepower petrol engines built in the late 1930's which was capable of nearly 200 kilometres per hour not bad for pre world war 2. We lunched in the restaurant at the museum which was very nice but resisted desert as wanted to stop by the local bakery for some treats which were duly bought and now happy to say have been consumed, very yummy too. Well another day of exploring over which was well enjoyed and now looking forward to the le tour tomorrow. Bon Soir to all.
